Magpies 2022

This signing is funny on a few levels given when you take into account who he has been playing for in recent years and especially the hate he was given during Chiefs games.
I thought Hawkes Bay only promoted their own and did not resort to this sort of purchase?

@bayimports Apparently (according to the media release), our new head coach knows Tiatia from when he was still at St Pats Silverstream. So there already was a link.
Rest assured that he'll get a fair amount of scrutiny. Not all of us are happy that he has been signed, but we'll support him when he's wearing the black & white hoops, because he's wearing the black & white hoops.

Look at old imports coming to the Bay thread and talking smack because we poached their poach.

@Higgins It wasn't that hard to find out. The moment I spoke to BOP people and they went quiet, it was pretty obvious. I think you'll find they'll be announcing one more recruitment signing. The rest of the Squad is pretty settled. Possibilities. If Namatahi Waa doesn't return, Why not Owen Frank's. His brother played for the Bay. One of the Sullivan brothers would be very handy, but doubtful. Don't know if O'Connor's returning, so maybe an openside flanker? Time will tell.

@Nepia oh absolutely, but you can see why I am loving this, this signing was just delicious on many levels not to throw shade
I don't think any of us have ever tried to claim we never bring in players (we complain constantly about the shit ones we bring in, hopefully we wont need to complain about Tiatia) we just don't go full chequebook like Ta$man and some recent Of Plenty teams.

@Billsy111 Maybe it is a lock as don't think Bryn Evans or Eli Martin have been announced yet?
Martin played yesterday I'm pretty sure, so I would think he is signed.

@kiwimatrix Not necessarily. There were several club playeres in that team that don't have and won't get contracts.

True but I'm pretty sure if someone else was coming in we would have heard whispers by now.Considering Tech have so far been the best club team,it would be highly unlikely another local would be promoted ahead of Martin, imo.

Listening to Josh Syms radio slot this morning he said something along the lines of "I don't know it it has been announced yet but Stacy Ili is amongst the 36 players signed for the Magpies this season".
Touiching on the Chase Tiatia situation he confessed that he has long been a target for the (real) Bay as he has strong connections with some of the players here (presumably those from the Wellington region ex HOBM and St. Pats Silverstream) but had loyalty to BoP after they took a punt on him in the first place. Those at BoP have since moved on and now with his chance from the Chiefs to the Western Force if gave him a chance to join up again and play a few games with his mates.Mr. Syms said he would look at playing him in the following jerseys in order 13, 15, 14 then 11.
No hint or anything about the other players not yet declared by the HBRFU as contracted so we will have to wait on the final two or three spots on which we are still speculating about.

This is today's (32nd) announcement:

Btw, Ili's signing was announced on 10 June.

Geoff Cridge was announced as a signing for this season, but Bayonne has announced that he's signed a 2-year contract with them. I assume he'll leave after the NPC, but haven't seen any confirmation of that.
Stoked for the lad considering he almost gave away rugby to become a full time builder after being dropped from the Canes a few years ago. Hopefully this will set him up well for later life.
