@mariner4life Yeah, we are in a really fucked up time, and people our age don't pick up on a lot of it.
BTW, the second paragraph was about the anglosphere.

Fear is our most natural instinct
Throughout humanities history it has always been weaponised for control

@mariner4life There have been some great totalitarian novels etc that we could apply to our societies as extremes that serve as warnings, but none captured the quotidian reality of a 30% diminished society where the penalties are boredom and celibacy.

Was chatting to Mrs M daughter, a Snr Nurse who has just left the NHS, last week or so.
One of the main reasons she left (there were several) was "diversity" increasingly being seen as more important than clinical standards. Medical cock-ups were increasingly being shrugged off and put down to "stress" while things like "mis-gendering" were seized on with zeal and "offenders" disciplined.
Good way to show you're a dedicated manager and/or senior clinician and you have a cowed workforce to ensure you don't need worry about the serious side of health care I guess.

Make kids fearful about graduating, losing financial aid, and sandbag them with endless paperwork and bureaucracy when they're working hard as it is, and you have them self-censoring. Then atomize them, and you have institutional domination.
Not a great believer in conspiracy theories, but you have to wonder if this, if not deliberately organised, has been discovered and supported by powerful sections of society. Or perhaps Beck & other post-modernists were wrong..

100% this. It's a REAL REAL problem in British society.
My electric car which I ordered through work fell through due to a straight forward 100% cock up from somebody who was completely incapable of doing the job paid for.
When taken to task for it, she played the race card, and has been on 100% fully paid stress leave since.
It is appalling.

Extraordinary. All those years of scientific development, to end up here
What a world.

Whatever you do, do not read this book. It won't just make you angry, it will make you physically sick. The organised sex abuse on an industrial scale is bad enough , but it's the systematic cover-up by government agencies and some newspapers for fear of being seen as "Islamophobic" which is genuinely sick-inducing - and I'm not being OTT in saying that.
Extraordinary. All those years of scientific development, to end up here

We were watching Lucy Worsley's doco on the English Witch Trials in the 1700's last week. It was so prescient it was frightening.

@Tim Interesting. A little bit lighter but I have always said the Japanese education system does this to teens. Keeps them completely and utterly focused and busy on studies, club activities, cram schools, etc. to the extreme and they are too tired to do any problematic shite. It is a kind of social engineering (deliberate or not) but f#&k it works.

I'm not sure how to articulate it, but it seems as a society we are going down a path where we have massive overreactions to really mild things (like an offensive statement, "misgendering" etc) and the person is disproportionally punished, while at the same time a lot of really serious stuff is not getting anywhere near the attention it should.

Tweak a couple of words and you've basically written the definition of anarcho-tyranny

OK I googled that and yeah that describes what I'm trying to say pretty well, not cool

I'm pretty far from a conspiracy theorist (mainly because i don't have enough faith in people to actually pull most of them off)
but i'm pretty convinced most of our "issues" are a deliberately created "war" meant to keep the vast majority of the population divided, to the benefit of the very rich.

Probably a bit far fetched but I see where you are coming from. I certainly believe there is a behind the scenes plutocracy somewhere which has influence, but I don't think they are fully in control.

There's a collective mind-set and culture running thru (mainly) public sector institutions which appears to be controlling things - even if by accident.

“”A drag queen for every school” is a sentence that, until today, has probably never been uttered before in the English language. Why is an elected official saying it in public? As for “drag queens make everything better,” one can just about imagine circumstances in which a person might say such a thing aloud. But the attorney general of Michigan?”

They are starting to eat themselves....
Eunuchs “generally desire to have their testicles surgically removed or rendered non-functional”, and should be offered “surgical intervention” if there is a risk that withholding treatment could lead to them attempting to carry out a medical procedure themselves, according to the paper. In a footnote, the authors acknowledge “there may be female-assigned eunuchs but at this date there is insufficient documented evidence to include them in this chapter”..
