QT does not look to be much more than a bash merchant with a not particularly good passing game.
After today, Havili looks to have the AB 12 position nailed on.
(In all seriousness, I thought his D today was really, really good)
Missed 13% of tackles attempted. Equal third worst in the Crusaders.
In true Fern tradition, I stand corrected.
Full disclosure: Stats aren't mine, I just selectively quote those that agree with my biases.
Spoken like a true politician.

Fuck me that defence, ABs take notice please
Razor's coaching of defensive ruck work & the breakdown in general is second to none, the Crusader's actions without the ball on defense is the reason I wanted him as All Black coach after Hansen departed in 2019. Wayne Smith was our latest defensive guru in NZ's golden run between 2010-2016 & ever since then we've been lacking an effective brickwall defense and innovative ruck & breakdown play - these are both areas that Razor has outstanding knowledge & expertise in. Ray can lead us back to WC glory.
Big credit also to the crusaders defensive coach Tamati Ellison, He has brought a hardness to the D line.
ESPN stated the Crusaders made 254 tackles to the Chiefs 114, as well as having just 35 percent possession.

Seems about right a hell of a defensive performance with those stats.

Grace esp., Havili, Jordan, and Barrett absolutely outstanding for the good guys. The odd touch of class from Mounga sealed the game.
For the filth, I think ST was awesome (as always) and Ross played himself into the ABs. Ross gave the Crusaders scrum the old, "How is your father?" when he was on. It wasn't the Chief's tight five that let them down, they matched the Crusaders.
After his impact, do you start Newell against the big boys? -
I didn’t get to watch the game but are we talking about Newell who « had a mare » against the reds? Should be starting ahead of jäger imo.

What the FUCK was PGS doing when he did everything he could not to score? Fucking seriously.
Massive guy, try line in front of him, defender not in front of him, ponders his options and decides to look for a pass inside. Very strange.

Sometimes you should just point to posts not sure why Brad didn't
Yeah that was just dumb. I assume it must have been the tactics going into the game, but they should have changed them especially when they weren't getting the tries.

I'm still getting angry thinking about that.

@Chris But there are those who are still creaming their jeans over BBBR and Cane. Vaai was better than BBBR and Cane participated. Not AB captain material any more. Chiefs let down by an inept 1st five who can’t make anything happen by himself so it puts pressure on anyone outside him. McKenzie would have been an interesting addition not taking anything away from the Crusaders.

After rewatching this game again apart from the players mentioned earlier in the thread
Zach Gallagher for a 20 year old lock was massive with his defence and the hard work he got through in the tight, sure he made a couple of mistakes but he was very good. The impact around the field of Ollie Norris was also very good although Newell had the better of him at scrum time.

Yep totally agree with all of that Barrett was the best lock on the field and Vaa’i wasn’t far behind.

The pressure of finals footy! MMT would’ve scored that. Yes I am on that bandwagon 😉

About 10 others would have as well. Including some retired 15 years.

I haven't read the thread, but a couple of thoughts from me:
(1) The Chiefs will be very disappointed when they review the video as this was a lost opportunity with try-scoring chances squandered. None more so than Sowakula losing the ball over the goal line, and a poor pass from Tupaea with Nankivell unmarked.
(2) Despite all of the possession the Chiefs backs never looked that dangerous. The fault here lies mostly with Weber, Gatland and Ioane. Too many inaccurate passes from Weber putting first receivers under pressure which was often led to by mistakes further out (e.g., the Gatland intercept). The ball needed to be moved quicker to stretch the Crusaders defence but the ball was so slow it made defending that much easier. Ioane running sideways didn't help anyone.
(3) This game showed why I have never been on the Sowakula AB bandwagon. He basically shat the bed and should have been subbed off instead of Finau. He still makes too many basic errors for my liking and I'll take Jacobson at no.8 for the Chiefs every time.
(4) Ross and Ta'avao did their AB chances no harm as they dominated their opponents in the scrum, although both made a crucial mistake leading to tries.

@kiwi_expat we are still underdogs…
Would be good if the Brumbies win tonight so we’ll have a fighters chance next week. Blues win and we have to travel to Eden Park, we might as well just take in the Auckland sights.

Can Robertson just take Foster’s place already.
Yep, Incredible defense. Every Crusaders player knew what to do in every situation. Their line speed in defence, the outside defender coming up quicker to shut wide play down, only three max in the tackle, another defensive line quickly forming behind the ruck, and great communication. Then rinse and repeat. Brilliant coaching, Robertson surely has the best defensive set-up in the Southern Hemisphere.

Samisoni is an absolute superstar in the making. The most exciting prospect we have at the moment.

It was a really good defensive effort by the Crusaders but it relied on a massive dose of the Chiefs not being able to finish off the chances that they had.
It reminded me of the AB's defensive effort against Ireland last year where the AB's made 200 odd tackles and multiple players going 20+ on the tackle count. The big difference here was that the Irish took their chances and got points on the board.
Not trying to take anything away from the Crusaders as it was a good win. I'm just not sure the defensive blueprint can be relied upon at international level.
