Origin 2022

That was an Origin 1-on-1 strip
-
Here we go kids
-
Cameron Smith would be proud of those Qld extra wrestling hold downs without being penalised….
-
What a fucking game of football, that was awesome.
Munster is the new Wally Lewis. What a game.
I have no idea how Qld held on.
-
@mariner4life there was actually some beautiful footy in that final 10 by the Blues. The short passing, bodies in motion and direct running was great to watch. We should see more of it.
Glad Qld won this because I think it will add a bit more attention come game 2 and might add a bit of spice.
-
@mariner4life yea I really enjoyed the second half, good game alright.
Munster was johnny on the spot to get Qld out of a pickle a few times, and Holmes had a few big defensive plays.
-
Origin finish, the pace of the game throughout was incredibly fast and right to the last second.
You had the feeling another minute and it may have been tied
Great win for Queensland…Carrigan, Cotter, Val Holmes and of course Munster just insane.
Don’t see why the rest of the series won’t be this close
-
Who won?

That really was a pretty sweet game of league
Start was very even (can anyone see a reason Yeo didn't get an HIA?) but then NSW started to get on top., and rightly took the lead. Billy Slater showed a genuine bit of coaching acumen by making early changes. The introduction of Carrigan and Collins, followed by Grant, allowed Qld to take control of the middle. And they took a measure of control from there. The attack was disorganised right up until Ponga bounced a pass out to Cobbo.
2nd half was more of the same really, with Qld right on top but couldn't score enough points to get comfy. They were really hampered by the 2 injuries (Nanai came back but couldn't do much at all) and they started to get really tired. NSW started to click on attack as well, and on any other night nab two tries (how dumb do you have to be to stop in the line as a dummy runner? jesus). a 2nd NSW try was inevitible, and it looked for all money like a 3rd would come but Qld kept scrambling. What will be overlooked is the work to keep out Qld when Hunt made that last break, that was game over but NSW kept turning up in the right spot.
The last set was massive. Yeo went way closer than i thought he had any right too. And on a replay this morning he should have been allowed to play that ball. Extra time NSW win that.
For Qld some of the newbies were massive. Carrigan, Cotter, Cobbo all had huge games. In the first half i thought DCE, Holmes and Gagai were shit, but they got better and better. Grant was almost the most dangerous player on the pitch. Kaufusi is there to make tackles and general shittery. Does Papali make it for game 2 when he is only trusted to play the first 10 minutes? and probably only played the last 10 out of necessity? The Origin game might be too fast for him.

of course, as is tradition with origin, unless it's a blow out, the losing coach must whinge about the ref.
Klein was fucking dogshit, but both ways. Some of his calls, and then no calls, were mystifying. And some of the calls were the opposite of what would happen in club land too. Must have been pretty frustrating as a player.

Think from memory it was RCG, who turned up twice, once on the break and then on the far right on the try line, he had more impact than some of the bigger names.
I agree on the ref, given what the players are used to in a normal match, so many things left/ignored by the ref. It went both ways for sure
I think Papa plays game 2, but a shrewd bench change by Billy. For someone with no formal coaching experience he outplayed Freddy in the use of his bench (with some obviously forced on him). I wonder if he would live in NZ ha ha (I would think not)

it's not worse than Innisfail
i know you're joking, but rep coaching is not club coaching
He got some things very right, and didn't panic when it would have been easy to. The focus on pressuring Cleary on every kick definitely paid dividends, as Cleary's main strength is just pinning teams in their end over and over until they break.

lol absolutely joking, but was certainly a clever move. The C.Smith wrestle in the second half was invaluable as well, I thought the ref would blow a few times and he just let it go.
Unless Staggs is injured I dont see how Chrichton makes the bench in game two, was a stupid selection to start with for the bench, especially with Hynes as 18th man. Apart from a good motivator I dont see how Freddy gets a coaching/selection gig anywhere

lol i thought the Wighton/Chrichton move worked out!
Wighton was their best player. And then they lost a centre and had a specialist on the bench!
But yeah, Freddie made the usual strange Freddie moves, only this year he didn't have Turbo and Latrell to bail him out
I expect the rucks to speed up in Game 2 after the focus goes on that (it happens every time). But NSW shouldn't rely on that because faster rucks brings Grant, Munster and Ponga right in to the game. NSW probably give away a few set restarts as well (lets not pretend Qld were the only team getting away with set restart level offences)

Wighton was their best player, ironically having a centre on the bench was lucky but was never the right option for a bench player

Don't get me wrong when both teams had momentum there was a bit of holding from both, we were just talking about the come back late in the second half where Queensland were just holding on, that's all I was referring too.
I do expect changes for NSW in game 2 but don't expect any real change in the closeness of the score line, both teams look evenly matched.

put it this way, my facebook feed is full of queenslanders who have suddenly found their log in details again.
-
@mariner4life it’s crazy that Klein gets Origin matches. I wouldn’t have him in the top 3. The only positive for Klein is that he’s not as bad as the token kiwi ref Perenara that was running around not knowing up or down.
-
Spicy
Yeo was proper concussed and absolutely should have come off
but didn't, because Origin.
-
So Freddy blinks first
Staggs dropped, Wighton out with Covid. Sims dropped. Campbell-Gillard dropped. Matterson dropped.
Jake Turbo in. Jordan McLean in. Victor Radley in. Siosifa Talakai in. Clint Gutherson in.
As a Queensland fan, none of these scare me that muchFor Qld losing Cotter is massive. Coates covered by Tuilagi. Cotter covered by Arrow who at least has been there before.
