The Suns for the 2nd weekend in a row with the big upset.
I wouldn’t have called the Suns win an upset, they have been reasonably decent and can’t remember the Dockers playing in wet conditions like that. Could be a tough few weeks ahead for Freo
No way that many would’ve picked the Suns. l like the Suns and have said so on this thread, but Freo have been playing pretty well and have had a couple of quality wins against the Blues and Geelong. Footy players know all conditions so I don’t think it was that. More they couldn’t generate any quick ball off halfback which is something they (and several other teams) rely on.
-
What a second half by Freo. Huge win against the Dees at the G.
The hit the 50/50 balls with far more effort than the Dees. Then backed it up with some straight kicking.
A nomination for goal of the year with a sweet no look flick back by Frederick and snap by Shultz.
-
strange old season
Melbourne have the loss they probably needed to refocus, it had all been coming a bit easy
Freo looked cooked 6 days ago, suddenly people are bullish again
St Kilda are in the top 4, and seem to be doing what you expect good teams to do, beat the shit ones. There are some ordinary football teams around though.

jeez...swans have gone from being up and down from game to game to up and down from minute to minute!
buddy probably needs a rest so a ban isn;t the end of the world...although would probably rather have him next week....dont have high hopes
-
also, just quietly, the Suns have played 7 of the top 8 in their first 11 games and have gone about getting 5 wins and a percentage over 100.
If, and i realise how big an if it is, they can keep their form up, given their draw in the 2nd half of the year, they are not without hope of sneaking in to 8th.

that was a pretty big comeback on Friday

Up the fucking swanies!!!!
-
well, interesting fortnight
Melbourne without Stephen May = Carlton
The death of Freo's season was called a bit early
Sydney are back
Gold Coast are a win outside the 8.
I have not changed my thoughts on Brisbane from last season. I think, without a coaching change, we are a good looking regular season side who cannot handle the pressure enough to ever win anything. Our vaunted midfield gets beaten too often despite a couple of champion players. Our backline misfires too often. Forwards are good, but Hipwood right now cannot be the #1 tall. I predict a top 4 finish with a big percentage, and then a rubbish finals campaign. Again.
West Coast, North Melbourne, and Essendon are barely AFL standard.

@mariner4life big game coming this weekend Saints vs Lions. Up at the Gabba, will be a big test for my boys. Hopefully it’s good conditions so Max King can do his thing.

yep, that will be really good
Saints are flying under the radar a little bit at the moment. No one is really talking about them. But their form is pretty bloody good.

I think no matter the outcome on the weekend, there will be more talk about them. We win and everyone will start saying genuine top 4 team. We lose and the just a top 8 side, no quite there yet tags will come out.

yeah, welcome to the AFL media. All good or no good.

goddamit where's @shark to talk about the Dees?
Two losses on the bounces, and then Stephen May gets on the piss while under concussion protocols, tells Jake Melksham that they would have lost the GF if he'd played. Jake Melksham was an age grade boxing champ, so dropped May. Fight breaks shit in a restaurant.
May gets a week suspension, Melksham has surgery on his hand.
Stirring stuff.
-
@mariner4life it pretty interesting the reporting on this incident. Looks like the Dees tried to get ahead of it, but more is being revealed about the impact of the incident after the first statements and player apology.
In saying that, fair few scuffles occur down at Prahran from night to night!

AFL decides Tasmania can have a team if it builds a new stadium.

whiiiiite
white elephant -
that said, the designs i saw for the ridiculous stadium in Hobart looked pretty sweet, great location too. Their current oval is rubbish because it is in suburbia on the other side of the river.
Still, i think the issue will be if they are Hobart based people from Launceston won't go.

white elephantthat would depend on what requirements they put on it surely, if its just things like lighting for tv and corporate/team facilities they might be ok....less so if it needs to be 80k people or something stupid

And you thought Christchurch was having problems. Tasmania is a poxy little island with two "major" population centres. Launy based supporters won't countenance building such a stadium for Hobart. It's a clever way for the AFL to rule Tasmania out.
