Paul Scholes is a notable absence. He could score.
Giggs and Beckham too
-
None of Scholes, Giggs or Beckham were huge scorers though - not compared to Andy Cole who scored 55 in 70 games for Newcastle. Beckham scored 24 by age 23, Scholes less than 10 and Giggs scored 5 in the old Div 1 but still would have missed out on top 10 by a goal if those were included.
Top EPL scorers with pens removed - in brackets is their actual total - Cole scored just one penalty and Ferdinand zero.
Shearer 204 (260)
Cole 186 (187)
Rooney 185 (208)
Aguero 157 (184)
Kane 153 (181)
Henry 153 (175)
Ferdinand 149 (149)
Fowler 147 (163)
Defoe 147 (162)
Owen 136 (150)
Lampard 134 (177)
van Persie 129 (144)
Sheringham 126 (147) -
Wow, very quiet here.
Another night of glory for Real Madrid. 14 now, quite the record. Liverpool dominated the game but a MOTM perf from Courtois denied them the ball in the back of the net.
2 opportunities for Real and they took both (one disallowed).
Looks like major stadium mgmt issues, Liverpool fans seemingly the victims of poor Parisian management. Call me skeptical on that one.
Anyway, 3 cup finals, zero goals scored but 2 victories. Seems Klopp still hasn’t quite got the cup final game plan sorted.
On the flip side, Ancelotti wins his 4th. Best ever decision to leave Everton for RM?

There have been dozens of big sporting occasions at Stade De France before and I've never heard of any problems.
On balance, I'm pleased for Madrid. Their coach seems a very decent man. Another big final where Modric ran the show in midfield in the second half. Great player. Goalkeeper was superb too.
17 UEFA finals in a row from the Spanish Clubs where they've beaten foreign opposition. They really know how to peak on the big evenings.
I've not enjoyed the cockiness from Liverpool FC fans this season. Yes, they won the League Cup and the FA Cup. But they blew golden opportunities to win the League and the Champions League that aren't going to come around every year. Kloop was a fool for letting talk of the Quadruple grow like wild fire. Dare I say, Liverpool fans needed to "calm down."

Interesting thread from an eye witness to last night.
I still don't get why last night was so different to the dozens of big sports events in the Stade De Frwnce that have passed happily?
UEFA's excuse was that the turnstiles were jammed by fake tickets. It does seem odd that they couldn't sort things out. When did they step in to host? It wasn't that short notice, and as you say they have run plenty of events of this size in the past. Not the first time Liverpool fans have had trouble in Europe

@MajorRage crazy to think they have a game day blackout in the UK for the EPL. Surely people would still go to the games, and the broadcast money would be worth a lot more?
Not the the last day of the season.

On the UCL Final.
Real came with a good game plan to contain Liverpool, they nearly always kept 6-7 when attacking so although Liverpool had a lot of space to break into, their was a set defence in front of them. The Real defence did really well getting a foot in once Liverpool got close to the area, and a lot of Liverpool moves broke down that way. While Liverpool had some good chances and Courtois when some fantastic saves, the chances came from moments of skill rather than breaking the defence down.
On the disallowed goal to Real - couldn't see how Benzema was offside as there seemed to be 2 Liverpool touches to get the ball to him, one of which was deliberate. Was total chaos anyway. On the deciding goal, Liverpool seemed too lax to allow Valverde to get it across and Vini Jr to sneak in. TAA cannot be a great full back until he isn't a defensive liability.
Wonder whether Liverpool just ran out of steam in the end. They are an irresistible force while they can play high-energy football for 90 minutes but this was their 63rd game of the season.
On the outside stadium chaos
Surely for big occasions where they know people may turn up without tickets, they need to check tickets away from the stadium - and this will also deter people from trying to get in. Who knows how many extra people were there and if the ticket scanners were playing up then that is another problem.
On the Play-off final
Only saw some of the 2nd half, was pretty dull viewing. Huddersfield had 2 very good penalty shouts where the VAR backed the ref so will be feeling aggrieved.

But they blew golden opportunities to win the League
i get that this is a great time to have a wee troll of Liverpool supporters, but i reckon stick to the bits with merit
Liverpool won 15 and drew 2 of their last 17 league games and dipped out by a point. Not sure there is too much else they could have done.
To not score in 3 finals points to something lacking in the way Klopp is approaching them
In the end slightly disappointing to have such a great season but only come away with the two trophies the big sides only really care about if they reach the semis.
Could be worse though.

Liverpool really lost the league earlier in the season when they gave City a gap. Their second half couldn't have been much better.
-
and we have the third promoted team decided. Well done Forest on their promotion

Not to mention the only manager to have won the league title in England, Germany, Italy, France & Spain

Michael Owen said just after the final that "Liverpool are still the best team in Europe" - which I'm not sure I disagree with. I'd rather play City or Real Madrid than Liverpool, yet they hold the bigger trophies.

Michael Owen is also a bit of a deadshit
Not sure I can get on board with that when they haven't win their league in a couple of years, and lost another champs league
They are a very good and consistent team though.

Best team in Europe?
-
Lost a two goal lead to draw at Chelsea.
-
Couldn’t force a win at home to Chelsea despite having a man advantage for the entire second half.
-
Struggled against Spurs home and away. They were lucky to draw both.
-
Drew both games with City. Had lead twice at Anfield.
Klopp whinged about Courtois's man of the match performance.
Clearly he has a short memory
