Renton has been starring in the NPC (for me on the PS4) ... but he should be, his ranking is higher than all of the other loose forwards in the team.
 
Will the Canes release them or make them play for Wellington clubs.

No, neither of these players are playing on Monday.
 
Their play/workload is controlled by the Hurricanes, not surprisingly.
 
But the intention of the game was always just for HB club players to show their talent. Team hasn't been published yet, but Star Timu has been picked at fullback, Shannon Chase is on one wing. At centre is Matthew Garland who's been scoring tries and kicking goals for Pirates and played for the Hurricanes Dev team earlier this year, He is also taller than the other midfield options of Billy Ropiha, Jonah Lowe, Lewis Marshall, Star Timu.

That's disappointing to say the least. How can they be overworked when they never play for the Hurricanes and do not always play club rugby every Saturday, especially in the case of Renton. How can they possibly be overworked and in need of a rest? They are professional rugby players.and are paid to train and play with their salaries coming from the bank account of the NZRFU. The last time I looked the NZRFU is effectively "owned" by those rugby clubs (thus the financial members of those clubs) affiliated with them via their respective provincial Unions and as a financial member of a couple of rugby clubs I am effectively their employer. I fail to see how one game of rugby on a Monday can possibly overwork them especially when their professional involvement, playing wise anyway, is on hold for at least a month.
 
I see Chiefs player Atu Moli is turning out in a Ranfurly Shield match for Waikato next week.

The following Hurricanes players are listed as starting in Wellington club rugby tomorrow so clearly tiredness nor overuse can be cited as a reason why they might not be available for selection for Hawkes Bay for the traditional Queens Birthday fixture against Wairarapa-Bush. Maybe they don't meet the residential requirements surrounding eligibility? These we well recall from 1928!

Pretty sure I own a Saracens tie, will have to dig it out and take it up with me if I do venture over the Rimuitakas for the game. The attraction of a visit to the Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Supporters Club's Gravel Pit Clubrooms is most appealing. Might be snookered if they don't have a license to operate on a Monday but fortunately both the Kuripuni Tavern and Masterton Cossie Club are within comfortable walking distance of Memorial Park.
 
I do recall bumping into the guy that does the Radio Eketahuna commentary at the aftermatch function in the WBRFU Lounge for one of their Heartland Championship matches last season (or maybe the one before that). Very pleasant company to discuss rugby and other sporting things with.

Hawke's Bay Saracens lead 35-7 at half-time. Two tries scored by Ethan Pritchard, one by Joe Penitito, one by Trent BW and one by Matt Garland. All tries converted by Tianua Poto.
 
I'm listening to the commentary, so haven't seen the game. The commentators sound impressed when talking about Waqa, Fahamokioa, Penitito and Tangaere. Scrum going well, good running by the backs.

Apparently, the jersey numbers weren't quite right, but from what I understand the second half scorers for the Bay were Lucas Goodwin, Matt Garland, Jarvy Aoake, Junior Waqa, and another player. Poto missed one conversion and scored one. Another first-five (Snee?) converted three tries.
 
I hope one of you guys made it to the game & give some first-hand impressions. Some Magpies selections will be obvious, but it will be interesting to see who of these younger lads will make the cut.

Yes, I saw that on the HBRU facebook page after my posts. A bit strange they say Dan McIntyre scored two tries, because he wasn't on the team sheet. So either Prichard didn't play & score, and was replaced by McIntyre on the team sheet, or the HBRU got it wrong. Apparently, they also don't know who scored the last try because the points don't add up. Apart from that, it's pretty much the same as what I posted.

So apparently Dan McIntyre was called into the squad on Saturday night because Prichard withdrew with an injury from club rugby that day. They only forgot to tell WaiBush (they still had Prichard in their programme) and the commentators.

Anyway, looking at the photos posted on Facebook, the Saracens were wearing new Paladin jerseys. Not sure whether this predicts a particular style for the Magpies jerseys (no hoops).

Fuck, damn, shit and all the rest *&$#?~^<!! Richard Buckman has signed with Panasonic Wild Knights. Unsure for how long, but it seems pretty certain that he won't play for the Magpies this year and who knows how many more years. Anyone who reads Japanese and can translate this?

How many players have we already lost? How many of those have been replaced not just by good players, but also experienced players?
 
And then there's Retallick who will probably never play for us, Dagg possibly with the ABs, if AB halfbacks get injured, Weber, too. Edmonds out for the season.
 
I hope we won't go straight back to the Championship, just like 2012. After the 2011 promotion, exactly the same happened.

I agree with that! We desperately need experienced players, especially midfielders, with Horrell, Fruean and Buckman not returning (if the rumours about the first two are confirmed). They can't expect Ropiha and Lowe to replace them without an additional, more experienced top player.
 
Must admit that I'm worried about the upcoming season.

I'd be happy if it was Rieko Ioane or George Moala :biggrin: but it won't be any of them; it won't be Ranger either; Male Sa'u ? TJ Faiane doesn't have enough experience; and they can keep Matt McGahan and Michael Little.
