@tim I just 'discovered' that Discovery S4 is now on TVNZ On Demand
seriously? im in NZ for the next couple of weeks....should be able to binge it..screw you paramount+
I was reading that they aren't even showing this in 1080p. Maybe 720p is good enough for those watching on iPads, etc but really?

@kirwan I read a comment that was something like "I think every episode is written by completely different people."
A valid criticism. Star Trek has always had politics (the racism one from Shatner's ST jumps out) but they told a good story with it and the theme was part of that story. Here it's incidental and doesn't make any sense to the characters.

Thank fuck, it’s actually Star Trek.
Competent grownups, teamwork, hopeful outlook, and an adventure of the week. Spock has worked on his performance as well, much closer than the movie version to Nimoy.
Nostalgia touches weren’t too in the face, nice humour at times. Retro tech is just great.
They can’t excise all the clunky politics, but that was in the original show as well.
Solid start.
4 out of 5 Gorns.

@Kirwan couldn't agree more. Really enjoyed it and was refreshingly retro in look and feel. Looking forward to the next episode or two to see if it keeps the quality up.
Also a big fan of Anson Mount and think he nails Capt. Pike.

makes me thing, for all their holes and problems.....i did kind of like at least the first two of the Chris Pine movies, enjoyable action rather than..."good"
I like all three, the third might even be the best.
I just wish they would tone down the action and up the smarts. Tell a good story first, and let Star Wars be Star Wars.
finally, beyond showed up on the streaming services, you're right, was much better than i remembered, the music scene at the end...super cheesy but spectacular
