@gt12 maybe they could try some rush defences, at least give us more idea on breaking them down.

Crazy that the canes won their title on immense rush defended. No tries conceded in knock outs. What the fuck had happened since then?

Was Plums was in charge of defense then? They had Watt (forwards) and Holland (??)

I'm not really thinking of personell, more why the fuck did we move away from rush?

I’m speculating about whether that might be related to coaches. Although, as the Canes looked I coached, maybe the players are dreaming up the system on their way to the field each day.

But all the NZ super teams, and ABs, defend so passively now. It's bizarre

And you don’t think that’s related to coaching/coaches?

Blues defence has taken a step back this year too - under Tana they were much more physical and pressing (whilst admittedly also being highly penalised - but at least it was a different style).

"its a penalty every time the want it that scrum"

and thats what wrong with things at the moment

    For the Highlanders? Yep

you think its good rugby any team can basically force a penalty out of another?

If you're that much better, yes.

if you're that much better then score tries, penalties are for when someone breaks the rules, not for when you force them to do something

I wish refs would penalise players more when they deliberately hold/grab opposition players who are trying to get to their feet. Strange holding Dawai wasn't even subtle.

Sure possible but it must've come from above, otherwise why did it become so pervasive. Maybe it's because we were smashing a crap SA and it will always work against Oz.

Don't go down in the scrum then, go backwards. Then dominance is rewarded

    Marino Mikaele-Tu'u

    Speaking of him, what happened?
Has he been injured or lost form?
I thought at one point it was between him and Sotutu for the number 8 spot in the ABs.

@frank He got injured last year. His defence was poor though, and wasn't in contention.

I've been reliably informed that Cullen is the ABs number 8....

if you're physically not strong enough...but have 7 other guys pushing behind you so cant go back or at least not as fast as the crusaders are coming forward....your going to fold, the reward for that dominance use to be getting the ball on the front foot, how has it become a punishable offence to not be strong enough

On the most basic measure of defenders beaten, surely Bridge ranks lowest? I am at a loss to understand how he gets selected in the All Blacks.

I’ve have always found that a punishment that doesn’t fit the crime.
Yes, reward dominance but a penalty?

Lots of missed tackles out there.

Frizell has four made, five missed.

Gregory with three made, three missed.
