2022 Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand

Well, so that's that. Barring miracles, we're done.
There are clearly three divisions of talent; Australia at the top, BANG/PAK at the bottom, and the 5 mid tier nations in the middle.
We just weren't good enough in the tight ones, particularly batting deeper down.
Batting
We couldn't score 6 in the last over against WI, couldn't get another 10 against SA (that would probably have been game changing), and failed to bat out our overs consisently. Losing 6/30 or less twice is just not OK; you're not going to win many games that way.Fielding
We've improved, but a long way to go. Practice critical; the tournament fielding in general seems to improve with regular, high quality cricket. Dropping simple catches is the biggest work-on I reckon.Bowling

Certainly not a weak area, but we struggle with actually taking wickets.OVerall, it's been fun, looking forward to the last few games and knockouts, but really only to see if Aus drop a playoff game. It's cricket, it could happen, but so far it looks very very unlikely.
What this shows is Women's Cricket has a viable product, but need time and eyeballs ($$$) to keep developing.

I agree. I've really enjoyed this WC despite the NZ results.

The main issue is our batting... you can't get really good totals on the board if your batting partnerships are poor, far too often we look like we are getting a promising partnership going & either get out through bad shot selection or are run out, also lose too many wickets close together.

The inefficiency of most teams (all except Australia) in actually closing out games is what has made this tournament so good to watch. Would have been great to see NZ in the semis but if you get so close in 3 games and lose them all then you deserve to go out unfortunately.

Not really in my mind.
We are only 5th seeds, so needing home advantage to pull us through.
Yeah sure but that's only just outside the top four, and we were playing at home. Compare this to 1992 when the men were rank outsiders and made the semis and very nearly the final. Or the 2002 FIFA WC when South Korea made it to the semis at home. Or many Olympic games when the hosts succeed. Sports teams and competitors are often lifted by performing at home on the biggest stage, so I see this as a choke.

Yeah, we simply aren't good enough. Other teams have also been really patchy through their games but not to lose every time they get close.
That choke against the Windies not only put us in a bad spot on the table but set up a losing habit. -

It was here in Auckland, but now the sun is beaming through the window. Go figure. Going to be a few hours before it passes the Tron though.
how good is the drainage at Seddon Park? Could they start if the rain stops?

Choked bowling pies (short pitched getting smoked, didn't change) and then not getting 6 off the last over with 3 wickets in hand. If their game today gets washed out, that'd be them out of the running, and we'd be through.
Still annoyed at that finish!

imagine how poor our tourney would look if we had a washout vs the Bangles. It'd be horrific, and we wouldn't even be in contention.

It seems that a few larger totals in games pre World Cup set NZ expectations of a decent first innings score to be higher than was required/realistic.
Against South Africa, 197-4 with 10 overs to go and we batted as if 270 was required, 228 was achieved - when 250 would have been enough.
Against England, 130-2 with 20 overs to go and only reach 203 when 220 would have been enough.

So that's ~3 h needed, the length of a T20 match. Still heavy rain with more forecasted. The weather may improve, and I don't know if they can continue later under lights.

the rain radar shows the rain about to finish. GIven it's the band we had in Auckland, it pretty well stopped! Blue skies now.
Ir eckon the weather shouldn't stop play if they get going. It'll only be the outfield condition preventing the start.
