Role Models; Sean William Scott, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, McLovin (guy from Superbad)

6.1/10, just a silly comedy that you will find plenty of moments to smile about, but not LOL funny.

    Hellboy 2.
Was dissappointed. Thought going in, that it was going to be better. It's not bad, but would only rate it 3/5. OK story, decent action, just didn't float my boat.

YPF. This was a funny relationship movie, but not what you'd expect. Following a number of couples sexual experiences, the friends, the exes, the room mates - it's a good movie. Quite bizarre at times but worth watching!

Watched The Darjeeling Limited today, quite enjoyable. Not a big fan of Owen Wilson but its a light quirky little film.
A fun way to spend 90 mins, give it a solid 7.48 out of 10.
Fun ? I didn't like it at all, it's along the same lines as The Royal Tannenbaums which could be described as 'quirky'. At least The Darjeeling Limited is set in an interesting location when they are off the train and wandering the countryside.
The olds gave me a copy of Darjeeling, I watched about 45 minutes and then had to go out. This was about two months ago and I've never felt the need to watch anymore. Just didn't have anything going for it in my opinion.
2nd that - pretty boring movie i thought, The Royal Tannenbaums was more interesting.
Watched it on Saturday because it was my first day off in two weeks and I was feeling ultra-lazy. I saw the cast list and thought "oh yeah, should be pretty clever/funny/light-hearted". Dry as fossilised batshit. Never gained momentum and, while I can appreciate the point where they "found" themselves, it was as slow-paced as Jacob Oram off his short run.

Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock?

Rating: 7.5/10

Still getting through my documentaries. This one is not quite as enthralling as "King of Kong" (see above), but this one is still an excellent character study intersecting with a bigger cultural theme(s).

A crusty old 70+ year old hard-as-nails woman truck driver in California goes to buy her recuperating friend a "get-well" present. She goes to a thrift shop and talks them into discounting an $8 painting for $5 dollars. She gives the painting to her friend, but her friend thinks it's too big and ugly for her apartment, so declines. Old mama truck driver then tries to recover her $5 by selling it at her own yard sale. But a high school teacher comes by the yard sale and says, hmmm, it looks like a Jackson Pollock. She replies, "Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock?"

Now, if it were me being the high school teacher, and I suspected a yard sale offering what might be a Jackson Pollock (value: $50-million) for $5, I would accept that cost as a reasonable risk and plop the fiver down for it. Dumbarse teacher did not.

I don't want to give away how the film ends, suffice to say (for me especially, being a cynical art school grad who's read Tom Wolfe's "The Painted Word" at least ten times) the larger theme becomes one of science vs. art world snobbery.

The painting is not signed. But forensic detectives are brought in to prove that the acryllic oil thumb-prints on the painting are those of Jackson Pollock. Spectral analyses ascertains the precise paint on the painting is the same paint found in cans and on the floor of Pollock's studio. If it was murder they were investigating and not the authenticity of a painting, the evidence would be convincing enough to convict a man and send him to the electric chair, but the art world categorically rejects the findings because one) they don't understand science; and two) they are elitist pointy-headed art snobs with degrees from the finest universities looking down their noses at an ignorant old blue-collar truck-driving Grade 8 dropout, and they don't want to admit that she may be right and that they are wrong.

Sorry, can't find a trailer.

Saw Watchmen the other night too.

I loved it. Especially the Geeza with the full mask!! How cool was he? "I'm not stuck in here with you! You're stuck in here with MEEEE!!!" Gee I loved that.

Long movie, but it kind of needed it I reckon.

Stoked I saw it on the big screen as it wouldn't have had the same impact on TV

In Gran Torino ( aiming this one at you Virgil !! ) did anyone wish that Clint.... [spoiler:zuigvyc6]gunned down all those asians at the end ? now part of me does but then I realise he's not the man with no name and couldn't have possibly got all five or six. By making the ultimate sacrifice to help atone for all his horrible deeds in the war he ensured that Thao and Sue had the best possible future away from the gangbangers who were trying to ruin their lives. He figured better going down quickly rather than dying slowly and horribly, after all he clearly has lung cancer or some thing like that.

A bit of a surprise ending for sure, I was expecting him to whip out a rifle or pistol and go all "unforgiven" on their asses ![/spoiler:zuigvyc6]
Saw Rock'nRolla; 6.4/10, typical Guy Ritchie.

Best scene was when they tried to escape form the Russian Mafia types...

Changeling; Angelina Jolie, directed by Clint.

8.0/10 - based on a true story of a mother whose son goes missing and 5 months later the LAPD find a boy and try to make her and everyone else believe that he is her missing boy. Ultimately leading to a much more grisly and horrid discovery.

a gripping but sad movie that kept me watching for all 2hrs 15 mins!

Enjoying having Sky Movies for just $1, watched Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint Eastwood. Not bad, typical 70's fare, seemed all too easy for Clint as he was never stretched playing a bank robber.
And finally caught Beowulf in HD, superb CGI/Animation. You could swear the skin detail was real. Stunning stuff.
The film, meh not bad, interesting touch having the characters resembling the actors who were doing their voices.

Just saw Watchmen and I would give it a 6/10. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd read the comic series because the story in the film seemed a bit too helter skelter. I'm not one for gratuitous ultra violence either and that sex scene was just ridiculous.

If you want a good film to watch with the girlfriend/missus, I would recommend Two days in Paris. A funny romantic comedy in the style of Woody Allen, but waaaaay better then anything he's done recently.

Nice "buddy" movie with a great performance from Jeff Bridges. Definitely entertaining stuff with a bit of a tragedy thrown in at the end. Like Walt Kowalski from Gran Torino Thunderbolt was a Korean war hero ( unlike clint in real life who never actually saw any action eusa_whistle )

    This trailer looks awesome...
Tyson

Tyson is acclaimed indie director James Toback’s stylistically inventive portrait of a mesmerizing Mike Tyson. Toback allows Tyson to reveal himself without inhibition and with eloquence and a pervasive vulnerability. Through a mixture of original interviews and archival footage and photographs, a startlingly complex, fully-rounded human being emerges. The film ranges from Tyson’s earliest memories of growing up on the mean streets of Brooklyn through his entry into the world of boxing, to his rollercoaster ride in the funhouse of worldwide fame and fortunes won and lost. It is the story of a legendary and uniquely controversial international athletic icon, a figure conjuring radical questions of race and class. In its depiction of a man rising from the most debased circumstances to unlimited heights, destroyed by his own hubris, TYSON emerges as a modern day version of classic Greek tragedy.

Btw, if you haven't seen the two-part feature "Beyond The Glory" documentary about Tyson from a few years back, it's absolutely gripping. When you let Mike speak for himself, even leftist female social workers - exactly the sort of people who would typically despise him - have been known to weep. Starts here:
Saw Watchmen last night. I give it 6.5/10. I'll read Moore's graphic novel. I suspect there is some good metaphorical subtext in the comic that was only partly hinted at in the movie. Some of the effects looked awesome; others looked cheese. Neither the "Hallelujah" sex scene, nor Dr. Manhattan's glowing blue penis, offended me in any way. (I thought the silly Borat-ish thong Doc occasionally wore to be more distracting.) I never really did see the perky erect nipples either, and I can assure you I was looking for them. Pretty good story, but wasn't easy connecting emotionally to the characters. Still, I thought it was okay. Much, much better than League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but not as good as V For Vendetta.

    Valkyrie - 6.7/10 - Tom Cruise

IMO just lacked any real punch, all in all it was ok, but just lacked any real tension and never really got going.

Watched Commando yesterday, easily one of Arnie's best (or worst depending on your tastes)
The one liners just kept on rolling, the fact he single handedly took out an entire army on his own at the end...brilliant stuff.
