Why do we persist with Southee up the order? In this team he should be the 11
to be fair for the first time in years he did wait for at least 3 overs before reverting to attack and only after big Kyle also gave up defending

here comes the rain
-
wow..tea called early and covers on....but they dont think much rain unfortunately
-
-
Not batting like a team who think there's much possibility that stumps could be 2 hours earlier, or an hour earlier, than expected.
Probably won't be. But could have been a possibility of a 5 o clock finish due to rain and light etc, if they had showed some starch and weren't 9 down already, who knows.
Certainly don't deserve it anyway.
They don't like facing Jansen from 8 through to jack.

Weak effort from a number of players

Another five day effort phoned in under Stead and Latham.
Stead needs to go ASAP, he's completely bereft of any fresh ideas or innovation, woeful tactically, and his selections are reliably safe and conservative. He's a stale out of touch boomer who's possibly the most uninteresting individual and least inspirational coach you could find in NZ. Mike Hesson did a much better job with considerably less experienced and far weaker squads with a lot less depth within NZ cricket at the time.

@kiwi_expat quality rant!

Openers Latham & Young only contributed a very pathetic 4 runs combined in this test, absolute bloody shocker !
We've played very erratically this year in test series against both the Bangla's & South Africa... with tests played over 5 days most of the game is about patience whether batting or bowling, but we haven't showed a lot of that at all.

After the Bangladesh series, you'd have thought that the team would have been very conscious of trying to produce a consistent effort
With that loss, basically we need to run the table at home against Sri Lanka, and away against Pakistan and England. 7 tests to go, it's possible - but very very unlikely.
Saw this here, thought it was a really good summary of the chances of getting to the next WTC final

I don't see us making it. The significance of the achievement to win the first test championship should now be very clear. We were so consistent for a long time

Series drawn 1-1.
Seriously, what is the fucken point, even a one off test has more riding on it ! Would it kill us to have an extra test against both our foes so far this year ?
We should get awarded the series though since we wasted them way more in our victory than they did with their victory.

Interesting to see some of the excuses/reasons appearing on social media for the 2-2 summer (mainly Williamson, plus Boult for the SA series). It's not like Bangladesh toured here with Shakib al-Hasan, or the South Africans were at full strength and with no recent retirements themselves...
