Black Caps vs Proteas 2022

Our position in this game definitely a result of winning the toss and SA shelling those catches yesterday when the ball was still moving sideways. Definitely need a few more on the board yet

Mitchell gone immediately after lunch. He has no business batting in the top 6 at test level.
I'll disagree on that one.
Looks to me easily capable of averaging 35ish at 5 or 6 over the next 3 or 4 years as we cross generations.
He's not really replacing mid-40s averaging Taylor or mid-30s averaging CdG. He's replacing the high-20s averaging Taylor and/or CdG of the last 2 years.
Only 'problem' is those are the cushier batting spots - which could be used to introduce debutants and youngsters.
He is trying to bat a slot that Guppy at his peak couldn't make is own in an inferior side (and with world cricket being less bowler dominated). Mitchell as a batsman has many of the same flaws as Guptill but with way less talent and without a 5th gear.

Whilst Taylor was overshadowed in terms of utter brilliance by KW it’s also worth pointing out he was a bit of a “once in a generation” talent himself, especially by NZ standards. We might need to accept that Mitchell is the best we have and go from there.

From overseas all I can look at is international fixtures and Plunket Shield stats for the past decade but there are clearly better batsmen out there.

Yes, but Mitchell is an “all rounder”
( in a “clutching at straws” sense of the word )

this will be an annoying partnership for South Africa, most of the fern was was expecting anywhere from 0 -100 off the equal amount of balls, with a 90% chance of 0-10 ..anything above 10 is a bonus
Now that both appear in... I think we should be targeting 400+ (I expect wicket next ball now)

Absolutely befuddled how SA bear India two months ago and I watched most of the series.
we lost convincingly to Bangladesh, playing at home
She's a funny old game cricket

Park Cricket Colin holes out, and we're 7 down
I've given Colin a lot of shit over the years, but i think that's mainly a snobery and purist sense. His technique is pretty average. But as a 4th seamer/lower order bat he's a decent asset. Should never be a front line seamer though. Nor bat up the order.
Lol at the comments on cricinfo about a declaration. That's never happening guys.

When people get grief on the fern they always bounce back with an amazing performance.
Well, unless their name is Mitchell Santner.

Can't wait to see the set pieces Fozzie has up his sleeve this year after 15 years of grief.

wow, Southee obviously wants a bowl
three consecutive catch attempts (one taken)
Im still hoping for 400 (dont think it happens now)

Are you implying that Southee is batting irresponsibly? I can’t believe no one has mentioned it before
-
Henry can hold a bat as well. We don't have any real bunnies in our lineup.
SA's fielding is below club level though, they only have themselves to blame for this huge lead we've built up.

He is always agressive, however it did look like he left some food in the fridge that he was in hurry to get back to before CDG stole it
doesnt matter anyway...400 up

That over faced by Southee reminded me of these tweets yesterday from from Francis Payne:

Henry looking really good too.
Below club level you say? To be fair on South Africa, I once dropped a sitter like that first attempt off Southee. I had been drinking all day, was in barefeet and had to avoid a hedgehog in the backyard during the attempt, but did recover to take it one hand one bounce..
so youre right..some of those attempts were awful even at backyard level

We haven’t since Chris Martin.
Will Somerville impressed me with his batting in India, it’s just a real shame he’s a spin bowler.
