@nzbloke he did well somewhere recently for us? But I agree, I'm not a fan

Reckon he'll be a good player in the future, but isn't up to it at this stage.

I was talking about Henry. Yes to Ravindra, deserves nurturing. That innings in India took some guts

Yeah, Henry bowled well in England last year, was man of the match in the game he played.

The wickets in England tend to seam all the way though a test, which is why Matt Henry did so well there - even though the groundmen water the pitches here making them look like real green tops we never tend to get that much movement off the pitch in the first session, after that it becomes a bit of a road to bat on... most of the wickets our pace bowlers get in NZ are through bounce & swing.

Our bowlers get seam early, using the pitch Boult and Southee use swing more (swinging the ball in the air)
Not many pitches in Nz with Bounce,Hagley is the quickest and bouncers pitch now.
You are right about England having played their a bit it seams all day so you defiantly have to adjust how you play there.
Coming back to play in NZ and Australia can be challenging for a few games to re adjust.
    To the bounce and pace.

    To the bounce and pace.

You're going to get a bit of seam or movement off the deck on any wicket in the world in the first hour or so, the Basin has very good bounce as well, it's a shame the test there had to be moved.

With Boult in the team our pace attack has excellent balance... yeah, Southee & Boult are our main swing bowlers, but Jamieson & Wagner can swing it through the air as well.
With Jamieson's height he's always going to be difficult to face with the bounce he gets & have seen him swing the ball both ways as well.
Wagner would have to be the most accurate bounce bowler in the world, also because he's short the ball comes through at throat & helmet height, always amazes me how super fit the bloke is too.

Without Kane, Boult, Ross and Watling this is a shadow of the team that won the WTC.

That said, we've still got a strong team on paper - particularly at home - but this is going to be a really tough series. Can't wait.

I agree with @Donsteppa on Ravindra, he has to bat as high as possible, expecting him to come in down the order and marshal the tailenders the way Watling did is a big ask. Much better to get him in earlier with an established batsmen at the other end so he can focus on his own game.

Boy do we need Latham and Conway to score big runs, the rest of the lineup looks untested at best. We can't really afford early wickets as someone like Mitchell isn't suited to rebuilding an innings, we want him coming in at 250/3 where he can up the ante.

Also very interested to see if Jamieson has addressed some of the issues he had in the previous series and finds his mojo again.

Rough on Nicholls to not get mentioned alongside Latham and Conway, he’s been there done that.

I forgot about Watling in my initial assessment, you’re right, he’s a massive loss too.

@MN5 yeah I did think about Nicholls. He's definitely got the mental toughness needed to succeed at this level, but I'm not 100% convinced his technique is good enough against the top sides as he does tend to ride his luck. Nothing like Labuschagne but fielders do seem to like giving him lives haha. We do need some runs out of him this series though.

Stead has already said that Henry will replace the unavailable Boult. CdG also playing.

When you bowl first you need to roll them for under 250 or you are waaay behind the game.

I guess our bowling is stronger than our batting so can understand the decision, but hope we are not being too conservative.

Normally I'd have a cynical comment about Southee getting a review that is declined.

But .... That looked a good shout.

I'm not convinced DRS is great at picking up late swing like that. Umpires call for sure but I'd say it was clipping off stump.

On replay I dont think it was hitting, certainly not offering a shot probably got everyone excited, close though, but I dont think you review for those personally (if you have limited reviews)

Happy to see big Kyle troubling batsmen again, he was one we really needed to find his rhythm

Now to get rid of rest of top order
