There'll be a grab-bag of grievances in that crowd.
So far various news outlets and whacko feeds* report:
- Antivax
- Anti-lockdown
- Antivax with added "Save The Children"
- Conspiracy theorists
- Sovereign Citizens
- Paedo Hunters
- Militants
- Wife beater(s) - I only know of Avi Yemini but there could be more
- Reignite Democracy Australia
- Several people I can only assume are drug dealers and/or heavy users
No Nazis like in Canada tho. So that's something.

@nta Hi bobby
lol not me - I lack that sort of creativity
It was on "Nuffies of Australian Politics" FB.

Youi know the other funny thing about Covid reporting focusing on cases over hospitalisations, ICU needs and actual deaths, is that we neve see reporting on "Active Cases" - you know, that figure that incorporates people actually recovering.
Have a look at NSW over the past fortnight:
-
@voodoo of course you fucking don't
The media needs the sensationalist headlines for revenue. Seriously, active cases actually decreasing by 14,000 people a day is not going to sell ads
And then you have the social media bedwetters who see this as the moral crisis of our times, and those who aren't fully committed to staying home care about money over lives, just like the "right wing" governments. Seriously, those commenting on various platforms about how the Government are not doing enough to protect "vulnerable" people don't want this news as it takes away their platform to show just how much more than you they care about others.
"it's a full blown disaster in Sydney deeeerp"

Well, I was with close to about a thousand people at Rosehill on the weekend (over triple the amount from recent events they have hosted), great turn out, everyone respecting masks when moving about, except when chugging overly expensive beer. Sydney isnt the disaster area the media likes to paint
Sure there are notifications saying some people now positive, but I dont have covid as a result, so I am happy, dont let the media ruin your life, just live it (where possible)

Wait... weren't we all complaining a year or so ago about the media reporting nothing but "Active Cases" - because it was the scary skyrocketing statistics, but meant nothing - "why aren't they reporting on the hospitalisations and deaths?
Bah! The things that really matter, but the numbers aren't scary - so they're ignoring that. Bah!"(Fuck - did I really just defend the Media? No. I think they're absolute scum. But... )
-
@kruse i think the explanation lies in the different moving parts and progression of a pandemic.
Hospitalisations and deaths for how deadly the pathogen is (with case numbers as a denominator) to suss out how deadly this thing is. Then once mortality expectations are known, and a vaccine is released the emphasis rightly moves to spreadability and community transmission.
Once we had a life and hospitalisation saving vaccine that worked, ( in that regard), the hospitalisation emphasis became fear mongering.
Simultaneously we then wanted case numbers (overwhelmingly survivals and mild symptoms) to know when we'd reached herd immunity and hopefully an end to this wretched economy ruining epidemic.
We learned that vaccines get an A- for deaths and hospitalisation, but a D+ for stopping transmission and new ("breakthrough") infections.
Yes and an F for all mainstream media throughout (the last 8 years 😉). Or should that be an FU?

I think we are STILL complaining about the media reporting cases over everything else - yeah they occasionally (but more frequently) mention hospitalisations now (people in hospital WITH covid) and deaths (people who die WITH covid) - but I have never heard anyone talk about ACTIVE cases, the trend for which is declining despite high case numbers - which is clearly fantastic news!
Why aren't the pollies reporting this even if there is nothing in it for the media??!!

@voodoo The daily briefing here, gives new cases, active cases, people in hospital, people in ICU and deaths.
Fortunately the last two categories are usually zero.
Surprised Oz isn't doing likewise.
Except it is. On a daily basis since April 2020 nationally (https://www.health.gov.au/resources/collections/coronavirus-covid-19-at-a-glance-infographic-collection) and State Health agencies have been doing so too.

We don't have daily briefings anymore

The point isn't that the information isn't there if you look for it. It's that it should be trumpeted loud and clear by the press and especially by the politicians. And here's a crazy idea, it should be used to drive and explain policy decisions to the public. I have never heard a politician talk about active cases and recovery rates.
Instead I just heard on the radio that there is a plan to change the definition of "vaccinated" to only include those that have had a 3rs booster.
Get absolutely fucked.

Agreed that's the fault of the media. Politicians have been spruiking it, they were also quite clear that the measures going forward were not case numbers.
This is Tuesday's NSW press conference. See from ~9 mins in.
-
@antipodean Not sure 9mins into a Tuesday presser is quite the level of spruiking I'm hoping for!
-
@bayimports well, after the amnesty under Howard and a couple since, maybe?
