One of our most 'famous' experts...Wiles & Baker have gone from science nerds to 2 of the most visible/quoted 'experts' since 2020!
gold
"One of the really unfortunate things is that the privileged people will be able to change their behaviour," Wiles said.
"Those who still have to go to work in risky environments will bear the brunt of the infection."
@Crucial out of curiosity, should anyone attempt that, what do they then do? Deport them from NZ? Make them pay for an MIQ spot?

Not sure. It would be worth seeing.

It'd be interesting to see what happens. I don't see how they could force them back on to a plane.

Here the govt is talking of getting rid of the Covid pass by the end of February. This despite 30000 cases a day. Why? Because unless you’re old and unvaccinated the virus, omicron variant, is a bit of a damp squib. Kiwis are being sold a crock of shît.

@billy-tell well here they are practically telling people to panic buy, get our and get your pandemic pack ready for when you have tonstay home for 14 days.

It's so irresponsible, people are gutting the local supermarket in panic. The 14 day home isolation rule will end when they realise that keeping essential services open isn't possible. A work colleague's relative tested positive for omicron while in MIQ and had a sniffle for a couple of days. How about we just stay at home until we are asymptomatic?

I smirked but can't upvote that

I assumed the 14 plus 10 thing was a joke when someone mentioned it to me.
How is this possibly being defended???
That blows my mind. The UK reduced Omicron isolation from 7 down to 5 days. From memory the science shows it's typically as infectious as hell initially but fades fast. I think England (for a change) has actually handled Omicron well ... cautious but not overboard
I'm vaxed boosted and generally follow the rules as a good sheeple does, but we have to live with this thing

Even if they do it, it will be walked back almost immediately. Everything in the country will grind to a halt, it simply can't be sustained

If you feel sick, stay at home until you don't. Wear a mask out just in case. That needs to be the rule

Also the fact is concurrent, 14 days or 10, not one after the other

Yeah, it's 10 from last exposure, which presumably should be Day 1of the actual case
Even so, a positive case doing 14 days plus all close contacts doing 10, will absolutely decimate the workforce, logics and supply chains.
The funny thing is that everything this government does is defended by saying "we are learning from other countries" - ummmm, how about a little peak over the ditch, it's not hard to see the impact of daft policies like this.

My vaxxed and boosted family all got Omicron, my wife had Omicron AND Delta (she has flu currently and it's hitting her way harder than either ever did)
The press narrative has changed here, far less fear-mongering. Even the cautious and leftie Guardian recently ran a story of a student nurse who's had Covid 4 times now. Every article I have read from a doctor working in ICU has them saying that almost all folks seriously hospitalised and all in ICU are unvaccinated
I won't compare with NZ - a lot is about hospital and ICU capacity per country and infection rates in summer vs winter also. Plus a lot of immunity via prior infection here. Another Omicron iteration i.e. getting milder but more infectious would seem a long-term blessing rather than a curse, as it ain't going away

They've mentioned once cases hit high numbers the days will change, seems like common sense stuff too me.
