Fletcher Newell big 270kg squat tonight in the gym,not bad for a young pup smashed Owen Franks squat record for the 2nd time.

    My prediction is on.

How come Williams is going to TH then? Are they trying to get him as a 5th prop option?

I’ll be happy if one of them ends up a Laulala at the Chiefs.

It seems the Crusaders with Moody and Bower as main LHs. They want to give Williams game time plus they see Newell and Williams potential ABs but both as THs.

Trying to use all 4 the best way they can.
Your team is pretty stocked at TH, Moli comes right with injuries he is an AB of the future.

Those 3 mentioned are probably the standout young THs coming through,
More depth at LH coming through De Groot,Norris plus Hodgmen is still young enough.

If the Saders see Bower as the answer, then I'm a bit worried about whether Ryan is genuinely as good as people say he is.

I have no idea whether Ryan is any good or not but a coach can only work with the cattle he has. If the young props are not ready yet Bowers is ok as a back up LH at Super level I would have thought.

My point was why focus on Moody and Bower (both old) while pushing Williams (a 21-year old LH) over the TH side (especially while they also have 21-year old TH Newell there).

I think Williams will still play at LH occasionally due to resting Moody and Bower.

Williams has played a lot of TH it was really the Crusaders who started him at LH last season,TH might be a natural fit for him.

Who knows, could be any number of reasons. Maybe they feel Wiiliams is not up to being number two LH yet? Maybe he is a better option to cover TH? Maybe he asked for experience at TH with a view to his future AB aspirations?

I don't know, but as I mentioned, I'm intrigued to see whether Ryan can bring these two through as they both have pretty big wraps on them. I'll be a bit disappointed if one of them ends up not getting developed because of a donkey like Bower.

I think Owen Frank's was squatting 300kg by the end of his career. It was Frank's academy record Newell beat a couple years back.

@bobily2 wow that's some heavy tin.

I saw Pouri Rakete-Stones is squatting 260kg atm for the Canes.

The Kiwi teams need to get together and do a strong man comp before the season starts.

I think Newell will break that 300kg by the time he peaks he is only 21.

There's an article from 2018 saying he did 280kg. He would've been 21 back then

Tamaiti Williams' focus on tighthead prop just the tonic NZ rugby needs

Tamaiti Williams' focus on tighthead prop just the tonic NZ rugby needs

After a rock-solid introduction to Super Rugby in 2021, Tamaiti Williams is set to make a massive impact on the competition next year – and in a position where New Zealand is desperate for some new blood.

@duluth here's some footage. I don't think 260 is his maximum because he does three squats in the vid below so 280 is probably more accurate.
