I'm not sure small lineups work well in the NBL, where big are still very influential
Worked well for Melbourne United.
Having the one big on the floor creates space. Plus Finn plays bigger than his actual size.

The Sky Sport Breakers have agreed to release star guard Tai Webster.
Webster, the breakout star from last season, inked a new two-year contract with the Breakers in July but since then it has become increasingly likely the team will again start the season in Australia due to the Delta outbreak. The new NBL season is scheduled to start on November 18.
Breakers owner Matt Walsh says he respects Tai Webster’s decision to remain unvaccinated. “Tai was amazing for us last year and we wish him the absolute best. I fully support each player’s freedom of choice in regards to the vaccine”. “The club will keep the door open for Tai, but unfortunately we are living in extraordinary times and without being vaccinated he will not have freedom of travel which would allow him to play for us this season.” -
The Breakers have found Tai Webster's replacement, 18-game NBA lefty point guard Jeremiah Martin.

Tall Blacks and former Breakers guard Tai Webster, who parted ways with the New Zealand ANBL club for refusing the Covid-19 vaccine, has ended up getting the jab after all in order to join his new team in Europe.
Webster has signed with Lithuanian EuroLeague club Žalgiris Kaunas until the end of the season after being released by the Breakers following his decision not to get vaccinated for "personal reasons".

We’ve looked pretty good in the NBL blitz. Besson, Yanni, Finn and Dieng playing well.
Not Breakers related, but Dan Fotu has had two very good back to back games for St Mary’s

So we got our second win today off the back of some good play from Martin, Siva and Delaney. Finn had his best game of the season, playing more like last season Finn, aggressive and instinctive.
Our young 18yo kid from France Ousmane Dieng can’t hit the side of a barn let alone get a bucket. Shamir needs to not start him. The other French kid Besson is a player and has an NBA type game.

I haven't bothered watching much of the NBL. The Breakers seem to play so infrequently and can go weeks without a game. And when they do play they suck. Too many late games NZT.

ah. i saw Sky Sport on the floor and no crowds and assumed they got back to Auckland.
Comp is all over the place, made worse by Perth. Cairns have played 4 less than the NSW teams (so, 4 more losses to wrack up)
The comp is fucked now because their are only a few teams who are able to spend the money to actually compete (lol salary cap)
Cairns fucking suck. I like our coach, but we fucking suck. We have no talent. Smashed by injuries. And we have no talent. They tried really fucking hard against Melbourne on Sunday, and got smoked because they have significantly better players.
The comp is fucked, basically the winner every single year will come from Perth, Melbourne, or Sydney. Illawarra have a good team too and may surprise. The Breakers need their old owner back who pumped heaps of money in to the team. No one else has the budget to compete.

I don't think that the money spent now is any different but it is who is signed. There is less of a Kiwi feel to the team under Walsh and he let the likes of Ili go, who stars for Melbourne.
Shamir come with plenty of hype but hasn't delivered. Sure, the circumstances have been more difficult for the Breakers than any other team but there appears to be a lack of fight, and too much inconsistency. Looking at who played last night, I see no Wetzel and other rotation players were also missing. Abercrombie has been out pretty much all competition.

I don't think the Blackwoods spent much more than the current lot. But when they won their titles the team was stacked with tall Blacks, and the NBL operated under the player point system that ensured even strength of teams. Now there are no controls teams with deep pockets that you mentioned are free to spend at will and buy themselves a championship. I think they got out as they could see it wasn't possible to keep up with escalating costs

The current lot can't keep pace with the big guns. But I'm not sure these NBA g league types help us much. The French kid is good. But mostly they are too green to be that influential

The Taipans end their season by having the highest score by a team all season, and Taj McCall having the most points by an individual for the season (42).
His stat line is pretty sweet

65% shootingAnyway, it was only the Bullets, and they were smoked by injuries, and according to one of their coaches, a couple of blokes who just straight up didn't want to play.
Biggest news for the weekend was that Perth, after 26 straight years, did not make the semis, finishing 5th behind the newbies in Tasmania.
The Breakers ended a very tough year with another loss. No shade on them though, another season spent on the road, playing half their games in random empty stadiums.
One assumes it will be Melbourne v Sydney in the finals. But who gives a shit?
