Stokes won't make Melbourne at this rate
His head is still all over the place, I suspect. I think he will be given time off once Australia have secured the urn.
He’s impressed me with his guts and effort and he did his best in that innings yesterday. I still think he’s overrated but a lot of that is down to crap written on the Wisden page which I guess England can’t help given the quality players they ( don’t ) have. He’s a very decent player but certainly not in the echelon of the best ever.
Despite that bullshit written about him he’s not gonna be enough to make them competitive, they will lose this test by a huge margin.
Even though I honestly can’t see any other result than 5-0 ( or maybe 4-0 if the weather plays up ) there is something so intangibly awesome about Ashes cricket that makes it so compelling. I mean, I’ll happily switch allegiances depending on who is in the team ( I was more of an England fan when Pietersen, Cook, Flintoff and Collingwood were playing for example ) but I’ll always love watching quality cricket. Long may the series continue.
I wish NZ had something like it.

His body is the concern. That fucked knee is directly related to his growing issues with hamstring and glute IMHO.

@NTA I’ve gotta say I actually quite like Warne, M Waugh, Hussey, Gilly etc as commentators and presenters. Warne was full of genuine praise for the courage that Anderson showed while batting, M Waugh said Stokes was a better player than his record…..little things like that were a really nice touch, so much better than the “Australia is amazing and fuck everyone else” bullshit that Tubby, Slats, Healy and Nicholls ( urgh fuck I hate that slimy suck up ) used to indulge in.
Still a bit of overly Bogan matey anecdotes from Warney sometimes….but it is Warney so it’s too be expected.

@mn5 Ponting, Botham, Blewett, Fleming, Hayden, on free to air. It's insightful and to the point, as well as having the right degree of humour without the blokey shit.
Supported by Alison Mitchell, James Brayshaw, and a couple of professional commentators and it is a better package.

Actually that does sound potentially better. Beefy is always good value behind the mic. Not an option in NZ though I don’t think.

Wow - England start on fire!
Neser and Harris both removed within 15 balls of the resumption - then Buttler - having taken a great catch to get rid of Harris drops an easier one that should have had Smith walking back first ball. Second ball Smith survives an lbw review on an impact umpires call.
So Buttler pissed on the fire a little bit...

I wonder how many runs Oz think they need?
Warnie seemed to think they'd bat a little bit past tea, which would give them the option of two evening sessions with a new ball in hand - in case they'd need both. Seems reasonable.
On the other hand, that leaves less than 4 sessions for England to survive - which might just about be doable if they could survive the evening session relatively unscathed.

Commonsense says they won't and they can't.
