Channel 7 just showed vision: every ball Stokes bowled in that first over was a noball. Only the wicket one was called back.
I'd be a little pissed off, but then how fucking hard is it to train like you play?
Wow. Why?
They check every ball now. Even have the little siren.
Is this because a broadcaster /covid/ some people and kit not actually working from Brisbane?
Third ump should be doing it. Paul Wilson is clearly not paying attention as some of those were massive.

a quick comparison, if you will indulge me
Test match opening bat has been a problem child for NZ as long as any of us can remember, we have had a fair number of shit ones
Marcus Harris currently averages 23.77
That is good enough to land him at #25 in the list of NZ openers with at least 10 tests.
The only names below him are How, Franklin, and Pocock.
There are some very ordinary names ahead of him
This is not a vintage Australian batting lineup.

I thought you’d forgotten Blair Hartland but he only played nine tests.
Pretty sure he scored more runs off his helmet than off his bat back in the day.

aaaaanyway
it's getting ugly for England. By all accounts it's brutally hot in Brisbane (so look for the 3rd session to get washed out), their spinner is getting flogged around the park, and these two are pretty set.

Only 31C? The "feels like" is closer to 33 tho.
Anyway, fuck all that. While humidity is reported at 45% they're Poms, and fielding in a cauldron sucks. And Wood looked injured and now Stokes is fucked.

OK the update from the Ch7 comms team: prior to the Test, the front foot ball checking tech from the ICC was cactus, so they're only using 3rd ump for wicket delivery checking. The rest is up to the onfield guys. Piss poor.

Fuck me this is lovely. I feel safe.
Not sure why you wouldn’t from the start. Look at who you’re up against.

Burns drops one. Not having his best 2 days of cricket.
Normally I wouldn’t give an upvote to someone quoting themselves but this made me laugh more than it should have.

Stokes gets Davey but has overstepped.
Both dickwads so who cares
Agree about Davey, but why don't you like Stokes? Apart from fighting a while ago Stokes has been ok hasn't he?
-
England just all over the shop. No luck, then bad mistakes like over-stepping and a drop.

The body language from a couple of them hasn't been great.

Middle of last session the commentators were saying they'd bowled without luck and it could have been different - but, I was already thinking that's no use. By the end of this game they'll surely be beating the drum of making your own luck, failure to take chances and comprehensively outplayed - unless the worm somehow turns and right now that doesn't seem likely.
