It looks like Santner and Somerville have probably played their last Test matches.
Not if Somerville and Taylor put on 200 unbeaten for the 8th wicket partnership.
That would move him into Jason Gillespie territory.
Gillespie was a good bowler though
Still dropped after a double ton
I was also thinking of Danny Morrison.

Spinners - 17 Pacers - nil

@mimic Not too disappointed.
He gets another and it's unsporting not to give him a crack at Sir Paddle's best match figures... and on it goes.
You've got to play the game and we'll be doing remarkably well if we can score 200 on this pitch.

India declare with a paltry 539 lead
Lucky for them, I’m sure Somerville was due some wickets.
He bowled like the guy my mate and his son saw practicing in the nets down at Shore Road on his own a couple of months ago

I thought @mimic was being sarcastic that’s why he got an upvote.
Patel went for a shitload more than Paddles, I don’t think it’s right he had a chance to “beat” his match figures !
Probably was - it's one of those things that doesn't translate well on the interweb.
Meanwhile, Tommy Latham is already struggling vs Ashwin and I think he's probably the guy with the best tools and form to play a decent hand here.

11-0 already. These two have decided to play a 20/20
Allowing for bad light, realistically there is only ~210 overs to chase down the total. We do need to be positive. No sense in leaving too much for the final session on day 5.
-
I think we can console ourselves in the fact this is far from the best team we can turn out, and even then this is a pitch not suited to us and very suited to our hosts. We will respond in kind with nice bouncy seaming wickets and considerably cooler climes the next time they come to town
-
On Ashwin……I think he’s the most underrated cricketer in the world at present. I mean, everyone knows he’s very good but in actual fact he’s a fucken exceptional player. A brilliant, brilliant bowler and a more than capable batsman too, as I’ve griped about in the past he’s probably going to go past Paddles for test wickets taken whilst playing less tests.

Paddles did bowl 20 overs less than Ajaz against a pretty impotent Aussie side on a beauty of a Brissy wicket for fast bowlers.

Boon and especially Border were excellent test batsmen. Kepler Wessells went on to a very good career too. Some of the rest were average though I’ll give you that.

To be fair India are far from full strength themselves (No KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, R Pant, Jadeja, J Bumrah, M Shami).
New Zealand needs to develop the ability toi win away from home in less that perfect conditions, not just remain as home track bullies. -
@mn5 Boon was averaging 21 going into the Brisbane test. Border was class and one of my all time favourites. Wessels wasn’t too bad
