@machpants Ah goodo, i see he played the 'i'm a lawyer card'.

    Also - explains nothing..

Nah my point was we have, in NZ, rugby bosses touting their knowledge and processes, and the knowledge and processes around the world, as so good and awesome. At the same time we have people using the same awsome processes cancelling games and getting stuck in the UK or SA due to those same processes not working. They have a much better opinion of their ability to keep covid bubbles working than the MoH will, imo

@machpants probably true. Some games are better than no games, though.

i am not sure that people fully appreciate what sort of sacrifices NZ sports people are making to ensure we have something on the TV

The Warriors have been in Aus for 2 years. The ABs have just got back from like 3 months overseas, and at this rate will head back in 2 months.

The Breakers did their stint as well, and looks like they will again.

It's bad enough for the Aussie guys who basically all moved to Qld for most of last year.

Vax rates on both sides of the Ta$man are massively high. If you want people to play trans-tasman sport, let them fucking move between countries FFS.

I don't get this at all either. Just put in place some guidelines for professional sports people to meet (e.g., bubbles, hotel stays paid for by the teams etc) then have separate guidelines for separating cases. The rest of the world has been managing this for ages, but NZ can't? it's a bit embarrassing as NZ is starting to look like it's got no idea except to close the doors and hope (again).

Charter trans- Ta$man flights would be the way to go.

to be fair it's not just NZ

Super Rugby TT also has to deal with Qld and WA

Although Palletjack has repeatedly shown she'll do anything go hold sport here.

All true, but it's the NZ government who ruled out exceptions. I think that is silly, as they want everyone 'equal' when it's their own stupidly enforced rules that are creating this shit-show anyway.

    starting to?

A trans Ta$man bubble is surely not this difficult to implement.

@kiwiwomble plenty of very good players have been missed by the Blues and thats with only one team in Auckland .
I could write a list on the number of players that have been overlooked by the Blues over the years only to end up becoming rockstars with other NZ teams .all of a sudden they start worrying about another super franchise on their door step..
Deary me …still plenty of talent to go around but thats if you have the eye to select it and thats been a major problem

I think MP decreases the player depth of all NZ franchises. That's not something just for the Blues to worry and complain about. If I were the Blues management, I'd be more concerned about the fact that they now have to share potential spectators with MP if both franchises have a home game in the same weekend. The majority of people already struggle to pay for tickets to one game, let alone, two games a weekend. The Blues will lose part of their Pasifika supporters; the question is how many ...

Half the population of Auckland alone is still more than any other (edit NZ) franchises fan/player base.

Obviously that’s all true, I was really just saying this is kind of bleeding obvious

if the blues have struggled to identify talent previously, and of course I know this as the landers have benefited more than once from it, but you put another option on the doorstep of these players that have maybe wanted to stay around Auckland due to family say….

It’s more just funny that the article makes it seem like the blues have just realised this is the situation
