NBA 2015/16 thread

Get the feeling it's the end of an era for Spurs. Duncan will surely retire, and Manu too. Parker might stick around but the jury is still out if he's got what it takes to be a starting PG on a championship team.

The talk of chasing Kevin Durant will only get louder I reckon, but what they really need IMO is a Curry-esque point guard who can threaten from beyond the arc and support Leonard. Sadly there aren't too many of them floating around the league, and even less of them entering free agency this off-season.

That said they are definitely not going away, with two bonafide all-stars in their starting five and a few very handy operators on the bench.
-

I doubt SA will get Durant, Durants current team just beat them, I think they will go after Conley and Whiteside.. and even possibly Howard.

-

I'd be amazed if they signed Howard, given they are such a culture-oriented side. Conley seems to be the word, and he would be a good fit IMO.

Durant has been linked to pretty much every team, but the deeper OKC go the greater the chance is he stays there. But if they get dusted by GSW then the talk will continue, and it seems Durant is more likely to chase rings than cash so a switch to Spurs is a possibility, albeit a distant one.
-

Agreed. The Lakers and Wizards (he's a DC boy) have been mentioned regularly but neither are in the hunt for a title. I'm not sure the Spurs make sense either as Durant is a 3 and Leonard has that spot. Ginóbili might be the most likely to retire out of the 3 veterans, as I think Duncan will play for another season.
-

I feel like a fraud posting about the current game but who cares.

Game one at Golden State where ever that may be his kicked off and Adams already has three defensive rebounds

9-8 to Steve Curry and the Golden Staters early in the first
-

haha I read it as Shane for some dumb reason.....

Adams used a regrettable choice of words when describing Golden State's backcourt in a postgame interview with ESPN's Chris Broussard (via Kenny Ducey of Sports Illustrated):

Adams apologized for his verbal mistake, per Sam Amick of USA Today: "It was just a poor choice of words, mate. I wasn't thinking straight. I didn't know it was going to upset anyone, but I'm truly sorry. It was just a poor choice of words. I was just trying to express how difficult it was chasing those guys around."

Adams is from New Zealand, and Amick noted he came to the United States in 2012 to attend the University of Pittsburgh. Adams pointed to dialect differences as one reason for his choice of words, per Amick.

"It's just different, mate," he said. "Different words, different expressions and stuff like that. But they obviously can be taken differently, depending on which country you're in. I'm assimilating, mate, still trying to figure out the boundaries. But I definitely overstepped them tonight."

Oklahoma City's perimeter defense was a driving force in its road victory. The Warriors shot 11-of-30 (36.7 percent) from three-point range, and reigning two-time MVP Stephen Curry shot 9-of-22 from the field and had seven turnovers.

Klay Thompson was solid with 25 points, but Shaun Livingston struggled on his way to four points on 2-of-7 shooting.

Adams was one of four Thunder players to record a double-double. He tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Russell Westbrook posted 27 points and 12 assists, Kevin Durant notched 26 points and 10 boards and Serge Ibaka added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Game 2 is set for 9 p.m. ET Wednesday at Golden State's Oracle Arena.

Tough fought game and Adams played a significant part in an OKC win with his defense and all those free throws down the stretch. They seem to have emerged from SAS series having worked themselves out, they give GS a number of matchup problems and have a great chance to win the series

Saw the interview live and it was pretty obvious he was reaching for a word to finish the sentence - almost got the feeling he was going to swear something like "buggers" but "monkeys" was the first word that came to mind. I cringed a tiny bit at the time, but it seems like it will sensibly wash over.

I call my 2yo son a "little monkey" when he runs away from me when he's taken something from the fridge he shouldn't. It's a funny little phrase that has been around for ages.

I certainly didn't think anything of it when Adams said it. -

Not at all. But the word has strong slavery connotations for black americans. They would probably rather hear a guy in a movie use the "N" word before referring to a black guy as a monkey. And I am sure the americans don't even realise Adams is polynesian
-
NBA draft is on right now. The lakers (who now get to keep their pick after finishing the lottery in the top 3) Celtics and 76ers are the top 3. I hope it's anyone but Philly as they've basically tanked for the last 3 or 4 years and like the cavs before them simply don't deserve a number one pick
