Anyway, the good news story out of Australia Rugby this week: I managed to secure $50K in grants to buy our club some seating.

We're not a large club, and really this grant was pure speculation on my part. We weren't contributing anything to it. We didn't get DA because we sort of didn't need it, and in a couple of months we'll take delivery of two of these beauties:

    Think Creative Agency

    Elite Portable Grandstand

    Elite Portable Grandstand

Our latest grandstand innovation for premium spectator seating.with raised height, superior views and outstanding portability. Shop now!

Pretty fucking happy Club Secretary right here. 😎

That's awesome. Can't wait to hear about the shenanigans that the lads get up to underneath those

you should 100% hook the scrum machine up to one end!

Thats great, we have nothing like that, currently trying to raise fund to build a pavilion, we currently use the Grand Prix pits as out changing rooms. not ideal

@kiwiwomble this was a State Government grant called "Community Building Partnership" with up to $400K in each electorate. I guess not a lot of people in our electorate applied if we were given full funding! πŸ™‚ Even got a letter from the Premier, which is funny because his school's Old Boys team is in our division 🀣

    Premier's DepartmentΒ Β /Β Β Jan 20, 2020

    Community Building Partnership

    Community Building Partnership

The partnership program awards grants for community infrastructure projects that deliver positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes.

There is also the Local Sports Grants they do every year where I scoop up around $6K to help offset running the club.

We don't own basically anything on our ground as we don't have that sort of capital. Parramatta Eels NRL are the lease holder now so we deal with them instead of Council, and it makes things MUCH easier.

Throw in the fact they maintain the turf to professional levels, and want to upgrade the amenities we have, and we've really been kissed on the dick by an angel. It helps that their GM played rugby for Eastwood Colts and is very community-focused. My President gets on very well with him, and despite being small, we look to contribute any way we can.

Contrast that to the 2 rugby league clubs (one senior, one junior) who share the facility, and just take-take-take, then bitch about what they're given.

@nta we're actually very similar, home ground is in Albert park, which means in a normal year we dont get pre season on our ground or the first few rounds as the grandstands for the F1 are up, last year was really good because they cancelled it

Think theyre looking for a couple of million to build this pavillion so could be a long way off 😞

πŸ™‚ Less rorts for State level. Not really needed given the ALP in NSW suck!

Ooft. DA required, architect and everything, no doubt.

Make sure the change rooms will hold 25 adults! The ones we're in at the moment were designed for junior soccer, who were the users of the ground at the time of build a few short years ago πŸ€¦β™‚

Change rooms have 12 hooks, 1 shower, no toilet. Lunacy.

    Need a lottery-winning benefactor.

A club here in Sydney had a new pavilion built, but they are a multi-sport club. They did things like Buy-a-brick getting toward the end.

@kiwiwomble they used the Australian Sports Foundation to help generate tax-deductible donations as part of that. Link in the article.

I was there 2 weeks ago for a meeting, and the shame was the local hood rats had kicked in some door panels and damaged the seats. Little fuckers.

You already planned club legend's names to put on them?
Or - you auctioning off the naming rights?

While I'd be pretty happy to buy perpetual naming rights... an annual auction might be a decent cashflow provider.

@kruse we have been throwing around a few ideas in that vein. Have to check out signage costs to see what the margins are likely to be.

The ground doesn't have fencing as such, so putting the signs up on the backing is a goer IMHO

Great news Nick. Well done. It should be sent out to all Subbies clubs as a case study for what you can achieve if you are aware of the grants available to you.

Pollies at every level will fall over themselves to back a local sports club. It's a great way to get their tentacles into a cohort of local voters they couldn't reach otherwise.

Community Building Partnerships are a flat amount given to each electorate in NSW, so every club that has the ability to apply should 100% do so. Most times if you are good at filling out applications then you'll be on the inside track.

@barbarian cheers. As soon as the stands arrive it'll be photo op time, thanking the State Government, as well as Parra Eels for their support (which amounts to a short letter πŸ™‚ ) and of course the manufacturer, who are based out in Condoblin and are Aussie Made/Owned.

As a Divisional Rep on the Board I've been encouraging the other clubs I deal with directly to apply for everything where they can. It can look daunting for those who aren't confident in the area of written skills, but I know a couple of clubs already have been successful.

Then there are the really big hitters in the Top Divisions who are getting amounts like $900K to upgrade their facilities. I don't need to talk to them - they've got lawyers, accountants, architects, etc already πŸ™‚
