Highlanders 2022

@cgrant Personally, I think Kereru-Symes is better and stronger, but he's been very unfortunate with his injury and hasn't seen much game time, yet. So late in the season, I doubt there will be a change in who starts and who's wearing 16 for the Magpies (despite Kereru-Symes starting this week). Both are formed in the Dixon mould! Devery definitely has shown lots of improvement and getting consistent game time has been really good for him. I'd love to see him given a chance at SR.

I don't hate the signing of Makalio, I just feel that there were better options out there.
He will do a good job for a season or two.

Highlanders media release:
There's a re-signing hidden in that media release (and the stuff article) that people may have missed:
Gareth Evans will join his brother Bryn at the Dunedin based club after last playing for the Highlanders in 2017.
-
@stargazer im happy with that

One more year with Bryn and then Fabian Holland comes into the full squad. I'm sure he will be around the team all year anyway.
There's a lot of upside to that kid!
-
@southernmann I think there's a lot of hidden potential in the Netherlands, waiting to be discovered. It's a minor sport overthere, but if you want to develop young locks, that's where scouts should look. The Dutch are the tallest people in the world, but most of these tall guys will be playing basketball, not rugby. Fabian Holland also comes from a basketball family; he just chose to try rugby as a young kid and it stuck. He converted his whole family to rugby, mum, dad, younger brother and sister.

7 loose forwards contacted, there is a free spot? Harmon cover?
Alaimalo
James
Lamborn
Fischli and Lio Willie ( i expect both will be in the wider squad) -

The ODT has written a summary of the Highlanders squad and what spots are still open
Good article. Would be nice to see a similar one for each franchise.
Good article but terrible boss.
Just kidding - Meiks is a good man, even taking his North Otago fetish into account.

Imagine the NH press if the ABs had a Dutch lock and a German flanker. Next thing you know Ireland would mysteriously have a “project player” system for those with Teutonic roots.

@billy-tell Maybe they can find a few relatives of Josh van der Flier.
-
Happy with that as long as we get someone like Kereru-Symes
