@stargazer haha fair. Done at super rugby with the crusaders. Whitelock, Barrett , strange , dunshea and Zach Gallagher. Not much room left.
-
@nzzp A very good addition to our side in a position we're very light in tbh. He's also showed in the NPC that he has something to offer, smacking the young players around and getting through a ton of work. Canterbury would be lost without him.
I'm sure he won't play 80 mins every week, but I see no reason why he can't get a starting spot for us next season.
-
@nogusta heard these lads had been signed by the Blues but was not sure if they were full contracts , so thanks for posting ..
With 2 loose forward positions to fill and with Hunt having retired , I wonder
If the final 2 spots are Adrian Choat & Taine Plumetree. -
@chchfanatic Do you think that if the Crusaders had lost Whitelock, Barrett and Dunshea from last season and were left with Strange and a 20 year old that they would've asked Romano to go around one more season to help grow the younger locks? That's where the Blues are at now losing 3 top locks for this season so I can see the logic of picking Romano. He seems the sort that will give all he can give to the team on and off the field.
-
@daffy-jaffy I dont think they would let themselves get into that situation. Says a lot about the blues doesn’t it
-
@steven-harris I still wonder if they may select Plumtree as the 5th lock. They still need two more Locks after Romano and there is plenty of young Loose forward talent around to fill that blind side position. E.g. there was that Cameron Suafua rumor earlier in the thread.

@chchfanatic You chose to have a cheap dig instead of answering the question.
-
@daffy-jaffy It makes no sense not to contract Caird.
I know someone mentioned he might be involved with the Chiefs to cover for the 3 AB locks.

A cheap dig considering their loose forward depth too
-
@daffy-jaffy the answer is no they wouldn’t. Because they know how to manage their squad. They have young guys always coming thru. Zach Gallagher , Jamie Hannah , Fiti saa.

I keep hearing about these youngsters coming through at Canterbury/Crusaders, but apart from the odd exception (Jordan, to a lesser extent Grace) the emerging players have either buggered off elsewhere or have been very disappointing. For example, it wasn't long ago some were calling McLeod a future AB. Then we all saw him play....
Even the two big props haven't exactly covered themselves in glory for Canterbury this year.
-
@crazy-horse Re: those Props - I am not sold on Tamaiti Williams as yet but I rate Newell. Kinda getting away from a Blues discussion. sorry.
-
@bovidae I like what Caird brings to the game as a Lock, so I don't know what they think is lacking in his game. He did spend a season in the Blues wider training group before going to the Warratahs so they know him pretty well. There must be some reason that he gets overlooked.

Has Tele’a officially re-signed with the Blues?
This Insta post by the Blues today may suggest he’s re-signed as he’s got all the kit on.
