be good if the Blues nudged him further north if they were doing that, but the current model is supposed to avoid that isnt it.
I didn't mention you blokes only because he said he wanted to live in the big smoke.
-
@nepia well we are similar size to Nelson, just thier NPC team is a tad more successful....
More to the point if he (or others) is open to moving for NPC, this is where the Blues should be trying to ensure the talent is spread around the Blues region as best they can (ultimately players will go where they wanna go)
-
@taniwharugby There will also be players who don't want to live in two different cities throughout the year, and have to be in Auckland for the Blues season.
-
@tim oh for sure, I appreciate that, but if they are open to moving, then I would hope the Blues are suggesting the Blues region team with gaps where this person is...for example, an upcoming young lock coming to Northland is less likely to get alot of gametime when we have Goodhue, Caird and Hallam-Eames, all quality NPC players...plus Allan Craig a NZ secondary schools lock contracted as well.

@chris-b Signing Matera was hardly an endorsement for local loose forwards looking for an opportunity. I am sure that the MacDonald connection played a part, and as a young player you'd rather have a guaranteed contract now. Let's see how long the contract is for.
A bit more detail.
Yeah - I wonder whether Segner was going to stay in the WTG at the Crusaders.
Sanders and Douglas going and Matera coming left a loose forward spot open - but, maybe Razor is giving it to someone else e.g. Liam Allen?

I wonder whether the Saders didn't think he was good enough ( @Chris ), or if there is a change in younger kids not wanting to have to wait so long in the Saders academy/B team before getting their chance.
I think he was not offered a full contract part time to cover Havilli,Who will miss part of SR.
There was some talk about Segner not nailing down a starting spot in the Ta$man side.
And drifting a bit during games, probably down to his age.
The Crusaders would have liked to keep him but maybe saw him as a year away from a full contract and the Blues offered him the contract,So he took it,You can't blame him to want to play sooner.
Probably had more chance getting game time at the Crusaders before the Blues were he will sit behind a few players but good luck to him. -
With Segner signed ,
Some intersting points to ponder
Is Segner is a straight sway for Blake Gibson..?
And there must be some question marks about Dillion Hunt ,head knocks i am hearing .
It appears Kitione Vaii & Vaiolini Ekuasi may not have full contracts .. -
Does this suggest that Plumtree is not signed as yet or is he at lock?
Collecting all the loose forward Dragon Balls π Our 2022 squad is almost assembled βπ Who are you hoping to see announced? -
@steven-harris I imagine Segner will end up a similar size to Papali'i and Blackadder.
Very tall/big opensides, but smallish 6/8s.
Not sure if this is going to be a trend at openside - these guys have to be freaks or there's got to be a trade-off in terms of speed/mobility compared with the likes of Ardie Savea.
-
@daffy-jaffy i am a massive Kitione Vai fan , i see a lot Ardie Savea in him just a wrecking ball on the carry..,but i am also aware hes very much wanted by the 7s programme as well .

So, seven loose forwards. Same as last year. I'm guessing Choat and Plumtree.
So how big is the intersection in the Venn diagram for the Blues and Dragonball fans?

Crusaders donβt lose players they want to keep. Thereβs some bloody good kids coming thru. Dom Gardiner, George Methven ,Fletcher Anderson , joe brial, Corey Kellow, Torian Barnes to name a few

Torian Barnes is a beast of a no.8 for his age.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing how Taine Plumtree has progressed. He hasn't set the NPC alight but I think he's got potential. Great pedigree and v.good fundamentals, size etc. Might be limited in terms of playing time if all the Blues loosies are fit.

Hope that's true. Because the glass half empty part of me is wondering if cracks are starting to appear.

@themojoman I beg to differ has really shone in an average Wellington team unfortunately he seemed to get injured after that Waikato game and our go forward really struggled.

I am wondering if a bit of horse trading is going on between the Blues & the Crusaders and Taine Plumtree and Anton Segner have been swapped out .Getting some chatter about Gideon Wrampling heading to the Blues ,anybody heard anything..?
Would be a superb pick up Wrampling & Ioane would be mouth watering
