Steady sort of start. Crowd firmly behind Pakistan. Guptill never comfortable and out.

Odd looking pitch. Shiny & grey. Pakistan have some serious gun bowlers. Shaheen, Rauf incredibly quick & explosive.

Just can't get the ball away. Every time we get a decent connection, it's hit straight to a fielder.

    116-6 after 17 overs. Won't be enough.

Superb bowling by Pakistan, it really has been. 127-7 with 4 balls to go. We simply can't hit the ball and when do, its almost always miscued.

134-8 final. Absolutely superb bowling by Pakistan. Arguably the best I've ever seen.

Up to us to match it.

Pakistan 87/5 with five overs to go. Could be a nervous start to the day 🙂

Southee bowls two in the slot, gets hit out of the park, follows it up with an ambitious LBW review going clearly over the top, and now scones the batsman off a top edge. Dramatic times!

Southee's two gimmies have been followed up by over of pies from Santner. Game over.

NZ picked a weird squad IMO, and now from that squad even a weird 11. Punching below their weight. The last 2 months of self inflicted weirdness. The NZCPA restricting fringe players from playing, poorly selected world cup squad, then the Pak pullout.

Although even our IPL players were poor in the second half of IPL, so that part not in selectors or management's control.

Not that I've watched the game... 3am starts. Spark giving us the choice of streaming full replays or streaming 5 min highlights. I've watched a few of the 5 min highlights packages and they are just a contextless blur. Think this tournament will be passing me by.

f**k you Danyal Rasool.."punch above their weight" , although anything can happen in T20, at some stage these mofos are going to have to respect our achievements

    Bugger.....

Pakistan took that one rather comfortably.

As I alluded to earlier….winning would be nice but it’s all a bit “Sevens Rugby” to me to be honest.

On a Stuff poll a few days ago I was one of the pessimists who voted that we wouldn't make it out of the group stages. From now on every game is a must win game it seems (unless India or Pakistan lose to Afghanistan).

    Agree in some ways.

Being winners of the Test championship is the big kahuna, being tied winners of ODI is next best, and this is a distant third to me. Ironically, it's the one I thought we'd have the best chance at - in shorter formats, luck plays more of a role

The key in T20 for us is not to let things get to the last few overs while there are wickets in hand.
We simply do not have death bowlers and opposition players are happy to swing hard.

Fergburger is out of the Cup without bowling a ball. I thought his pace would be pretty important for us - so a decent sized nail in the coffin.

    Replaced by Milne.

What was Conway doing batting low like he was ?

The team looks a bit ‘bits and pieces’ to me in classic ( 90s 2000s ) Black Caps tradition. We’ll see if they come right.

Mind you the Windies didn’t exactly play well either. Lendle Simmons thought he was Geoffrey Boycott, 16 off 35 !!

Damn. Far and away our best player. Our one true world class player in this format.

What's the story? I'm too scared to google search in case it is stress fracture? 😞

@rapido Little Kane probably gets close to world class at his best, but not this year.

Guppy also got hit flush on the foot by one of the Pakistan quicks and hobbled off after fielding half a dozen overs, so that's something worrying as well.

At 48/1 after 8 overs - I reckon they decided they needed Neesham's hitting power to boost us along.

They probably did - it didn't work though.

I wasn't surprised when I heard the result this morning but was very surprised with the team that was selected. I wouldn't have had Southee anywhere near the starting XI but looking at the scorecard he was close to our best bowler.

As @MN5 says, I would open with Conway to give us a left/right combo. Mitchell at least got a score.

You need to bowl well to defend sub-150 scores, particularly on pitches the Pakistanis are so familiar with.
