@nepia it's SOA in Yellowstone!
Yeah, I think going in I thought it was a drama about ranchers, not a a slightly racist drama about mobsters who just happen to be ranchers.
Plus I can't stand that redhead chick.
have to say im looking forward to the new series There is a bit of a cliffhanger
personally...shes just on the right side of the Crazy/Hot diagonal
I don't find her hot at all so she's just way along the horizontal axis for me. I almost find her scenes unwatchable.
I'm giving it until the end of S1, now that I'm watching it like SOA and not the serious drama it looks like on ads etc, and will see if I keep going after that.
Yep... she's not hot enough to be as arrogant as she is.
In that... not hot at all. Actively unattractive. Which is distracting in its own way.
But anyway - yeah, decided very early on - this is SOA, or The Shield, or any fucking Kurt Sutter show - but with rich cowboys. And with that in mind, it's relatively enjoyable bullshit TV. -

Damn, we should never watch TV together bro. I loved Yellowstone, devoured every episode. You can keep your Beard on the town shit! (ps better EP this week!)

Too much shabby plotting and characterisation for me. Even Costner can’t save it for me personally.
I really think the writer/director (Taylor Sheridan) is way overrated. The only script of his I’ve actually liked is Sicario and that’s probably due to Deni Villanue (sp?) and Roger Deakins.

Fair'nuff. I found S1 fairly innocuous... a sub-standard rich-cowboy version of those shows above. Hoping that S2 learns from reviews, and either: goes balls-to-the-wall ridiculous - like SOA. Or - goes for quality and drama, a-la Shield. I guess the likelihood is that it tries to do both, but fucks up the execution. Still... it's not like I've got 60 other seasons of TV in the backlog.
Oh... wait... -

I wouldn't put SOA anywhere near Yellowstone. Acting massively inferior, plot lines more predictable, just didn't get invested in the characters the same way
Haha yeah, we’re definitely opposites. Aside from the Ireland series SOA was good dumb fun. Even the above mentioned Sheridan was ok acting in SOA.

Good dumb fun. I can live with that. But the main bloke Charlie Hunnum (?) was really bad
I didn't make it to the Ireland series!

I have been watching the worldwide hit for Netflix - Squid Game.
Very innovative and slick until the introduction of the foreign VIPs to the game (white guys) . Their dialogue seems to be how the writer imagined white people talk.
Laughably cheesy..Sounds like the Resident Evil voice acting then.
Three episodes in and loving it so far. Very immersive and you don’t even notice the dubbing.

On the back of this discussion I started Yellowstone.
-Stop fucking mumbling! Or if you are going to mumble make sure the show is distributed only on platforms with captions (useless Neon)
- The not hot chick. Not hot. Bra working overtime to push what she has up under her chin.
- Characters very unbelievable. At least with SOA the setup was so far removed from normal life for viewers that the characters could be as outrageous as they liked.
Not doing it for me.

So as I said many months back, I started The Office, the US version.
Last night, I finished it, and I gotta say, it was excellent, particularly the last few seasons, first few were fine, but I felt it got better as it went on, I'd say went from a 7/10 upto 8, maybe even 8.5/10
I liked most of the characters, but was growing tired of Michael Scott and he left about the right time, Bobby California was superb, Nellie was great, Creed was funny, Meredith, Toby haha, although Andy, Kelly & Ryan annoyed me, but Dwight, Kevin and Jim were probably my faves.
Need to find something else to watch now...have ONly Fools and Horses and been trying to find Father Ted to start as I know there are plenty of those I missed!
:::
Found my self getting a bit emotional the last few eps, inwardly cheering for Dwight when he was made Manager, and how Jim pushed for it, then the whole Jim/Pam thing...man I'm getting old and soft, but that got me, then Dwight and Angela, especially when he found out Phillip was his son.

I watch Squid Game over the last week.
I thought the concept was quite good and quirky, although the voice-overs drove me nuts. Not necessarily the way in which the voice over was done, just the ridiculous sounding voices of some of them. Hard to describe, but to me they seemed too deep. I also didn't think the voiceovers were as slick as shows like High Seas, where it actually took me an episode to realise they were voice overs.
Either way, I'm a distracted TV viewer (will play on my phone intermittently etc), so voice overs are far better than trying to read subtitles in the evenings when I'm already tired.

About half way through and yeah we switched the voiceovers off and went for subtitles. If anything it forces you to engage properly with the show.

I’m finding it tough when the “workers” are chatting to each other though as I have no idea which one is the cop half the time !

I had a look at squid game too as my 12 year old son asked if he could watch it. After checking out the first episode, the answer was no. I'm actually fairly relaxed about it but what mum says goes.
Started watching Rake the other night on recommendation from a mate. Its an older Aussie series about a pretty loose lawyer. Pretty dam good actually. Will stick with it.

That's good to hear. Been sitting on my list for months, and I hadn't got to watching it. As a kid who grew up on shows like Blue Heelers and Water Rats, I love a good Aussie show.
I started watching an Aussie series called "Glitch" a few years back about a small town where people started rising from the dead (not in a zombie way) but Netflix at the time only had the licence to two of the four series. It's not a bad watch if you can find the whole series.

Reckon you will like it then!
