    @dagrubster we miss that sort of analysis, rightly or wrongly. The rugby shows we have are entertainment, not analysis

    Fortunately we still have the Fern for expert analysis...available to us 24/7. 🙂

    @sparky

    Cheers Sparky!

    Reinvent might mean get a broadcasting contract for a show?

    With the relatively small audience they would get from a YouTube channel probably means they won’t generate enough revenue to stay on that platform only.

    @nzzp

    Unfortunately not. For a leading rugby country, the media is not real analytical detail (maybe because the audience isn’t?)

    The only time I have seen insightful analytics was when Matson had a spot on the breakdown

    @dagrubster Yep, Matson and Glen Jackson on the Breakdown were good.

    These 2 guys started a rugby channel on YouTube. The kiwi and the Irish guy who always wore a beanie!?

    They were very good, providing an in-depth analytical look at rugby that we didn’t see a lot of in NZ rugby media.

    They then got a show on sky NZ and then , as quickly as they arrived, disappeared.

    Anyone know why?

    They were great interviewers too. Combined obvious knowledge and good analysis with a wide eyed fanboi vibe ... Scott Robertson / ROG and Warren Gatland were highlights.

    Needed to broaden their market appeal beyond NZ imo (too small a market), even Ireland might have made them commercially sustainable.

    Hope they will be back, I miss 1014 Rugby.

    Yeah, would be great if they could get on a Sky show, or even back on the internet. They filled a massive gap in the current coverage.

    it was impressive how they did it without access to some of the internal stats people had too. Even based on public data, there were good insights into the game consistently. I liked it.

    The 1014 guys going to Spark just for the RWC was short-sighted if they wanted a regular audience. Think how Tony Reali started with PTI as the "Stat Boy" and then built up a following and profile on ESPN from there. Sky missed an opportunity too.

    OK. Didn't see the relevance to a show about rugby analysis I guess.

    I didn't twig either, a bit obscure for me. So shameful head hanging all round I suppose

    I'd just assumed it was some reference to playing numbers 10 and 14...maybe their high-school positions?
    Although if I recall correctly, the irish guy looked like more of a 4/5, and the kiwi a 9.

    @kruse I may be wrong (as rare as that may be) but I seem to recall hearing them talk or reading somewhere there was some Irish link (possibly tenuous and not rugby) for him as well as the McCaw one.

    Maybe he's from the Clontarf suburb of Dublin... where the Battle of Clontarf was fought in 1014?
