Snake Eyes colon something something.
I was a huge GI Joe fan as a kid, started out reading Battle Action Force comic which was the British version (using the same toys but renamed Action Force) in the British comic style (Judge Dredd etc). They eventually became GI Joe as well so I started collecting the US comics too.
I didn't expect much from this movie, but they managed to make it worse. I think they used a storyline closer to a modern version of the comic (I haven't read modern version, but have read about them on wiki). But it was just average.
I hate the lack of time depth, where they could easily show the passing of a long time (for Snake Eyes to train as a ninja) but they don't. It's one of the key issues with I have with the Departed, mild spoilers for anyone who for some silly reason has not yet seen it, the timeframe is compressed compared with Infernal Affairs which it is based on. Leo is barely embedded with the gangsters long enough, whereas in Infernal Affairs he was there for years so you really felt why they would trust him etc. This was the same, the movie seemed to take place over a few weeks and Snake Eyes went from streetfighter to full on Ninja with crazy sword skills in this time.
The martial arts action is flat, especially in comparison to the work of some of the main actors - Iko Uwais (The Raid) and Andrew Koji (Warrior). It seems US movies don't know how to use Iko Uwais and hamstring him with set pieces that don't compare to his Indo work.
It also has Samara Weaving as Scarlett, and the main chick from Money Heist as the Baroness.
I shouldn't be that disappointed as I'd lowered my expectations for it but I was still secretly hoping they'd make a decent movie. The sequels they nod at in the final scene definitely aren't happening.

Dune would have made an epic TV series (mini series) I reckon.
There was one in 2000. Never seen it myself.
I tried. It was pretty shit.
Phenomenal book, really hard to get a good film out of it

The 1984 film was inconsistently awesome if that makes sense. I have massive hopes for this years version.

So, watches matrix reloaded yesterday
All in all…better than expected, cgi holds up better than most +20 year old films and the fight scenes are awesome
Biggest criticism is the convoluted exposition, they could have simplified the language but I went in expecting it so really tried to pay attention
I’m one of those that on rewatch thinks the phantom menace isn’t as bad as it’s reputation and I think reloaded at least might be the same…still flaws but the 70% it gets on rotten tomatoes might be about right

@nzzp I dunno, I just saw Cranston on the poster and did a double take.
I thought it was Dylan from 90210
I thought it was van Damme for a moment.
And yeah - I tried to find it, for a lazy review, but my entertainment provider of choice - a certain Bay of Pirates - doesn't seem to have it available.

I quite enjoyed that film, but it was truly weird. Sting in a weird codpiece ... just bizarre.

Yeah I did too but it’s taken me quite a few viewings to reach that conclusion. Some really shitty SFX at times was a definite downside as was stuff that didn’t make sense if you hadn’t read the book. Definitely weird but definitely a rewarding watch. The Baron is a disgustingly awesome villain and Sting was creepy too.
