Oh no. Can't we offer them either (or preferably both) of Messrs Hammett or Philpott? https://www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-bay-today/news/super-rugbys-western-force-want-hawkes-bay-magpies-coach-mark-ozich/5JRBXYPPE3CNEPMYUQZAKFOSFU/

Downvote!!!
But agree on Hammett and Philpott as alternatives .

Unfortunately, Ozich has indeed signed with the Force. The media release doesn't say for how long. Damn, it's great for him, but so disappointing for us.
So what now? Josh Syms to take over and become head coach, next season?
And who to come in? Is Tafai Ioasa good enough to make the step up from Hastings Boys'?I don't remember what Brendon Ratcliffe's stint as Magpies Head Coach was like ... if it was good, can we steal him from Napier Boys'?
Who else is there, in Hawke's Bay or the rest of NZ?

@stargazer How times have changed , i know both Mark & Josh very well, can recall a story from both of them in their first season as coaches when the maggpies were losing a home game and were down by 20 points at halftime
they walking down the steps to address the team with many of the locals handing out plenty of advice reminding them that this was not a secondary schools team , and to go back to Auckland in colourful language .lol
Really stocked for Mark , a really good story of a guy who won the Gallaher Shield in Auckland as a player with his club Waitemata , coached Waitemata with a degree of success and has gone on to bigger and better things .
That game was against the Taniwha, Magpies came back from 20 points down and won, they just had to remind me of that.π..cheeky buggers.
Hope Josh hangs around. -

@stargazer Shit, that's a huge drop in standards he will be playing at, going from a decent team to one ranked at the Rebels level. Still it keeps him him fit enough for when the real rugby starts and pays a few bills too.
-
@stargazer I think Ratcliffes record was pretty poor from memory.I know its probably a massive longshot but hawkes bay did try to get Joe Schmidt at one stage. Hes moving back to Nz but hes probably looking at a higher level than itm cup
-
@kiwimatrix Yeah, Schmidt would be great, but I can't see it happening.

Ozich said Auckland remaining in level 4 has impacted the team's ability to recruit another No 9 and that would be a "work-in-progress" over the next couple of weeks.
We have enough good but inexperienced, young halfbacks ourselves, so I assume they're after an older, more experienced halfback. Which experienced halfback in Auckland has no contract? Is Danny Tusitala available and in the country? Who else is there?
-
@dice Auvasa Falealii is very good player , was outstanding for Samoa against the NZ Maori this year , highly experienced, would be a good stop gap option ..also Niko Costa who was halfback for this years Gallagher shield championship winner Eden ,very accurate goal kicker as well.
-
@duluth We're down 3 halfbacks (Weber with the ABs, Fakatava out for the season, McLeod also broken - not sure for how long). So we need more than one halfback. So local youngsters are probably already in the frame, but we need some experience, too.
And, of course, it's an easy thing to say by someone from a big province with a huge player pool. We don't have that many players to pick from.
