Anyone see the doco on Dame Valerie Adams' sister? She has Cerebral Palsy and has become a shotputter late in life under the stewardship of her reasonably talented 🙂 sister.

It's a great watch. Massive family. I didn't realise that were that big

The dad got around a lot, but he has great genes

Sophie Pascoe finished second in her heat.

The Women's 100m Breaststroke SB8 Final is at 10.40pm tonight.

New Zealand's second game of wheelchair rugby is against Great Britain at 11.00pm.

GB narrowly beat Canada yesterday, 50 - 47.

I was reading that the tactic was to just qualify for the final and not expend too much energy trying to win her heat.

@bovidae Maybe the opposition isn't great. She finished 0.04s behind the winner of her heat. All the other swimmers that qualified for the final, were at least 5 seconds slower.

Great swim by the Irish lady to beat Sophie.

Those two were miles ahead of the competition.

    Sophie Pascoe wins SILVER. 🥈

The swimmer from Ireland, who beat her earlier in heat 2, won gold.
    The difference 0.39s.

@kiwimurph Yeah, the bronze medallist didn't even come close. Finished at 4.84s from the winner. Number 4 took a second longer.

I'd love to know how they classify these athletes. In some swimming events having two functional legs would be an advantage, and the same for having two arms in other events.

@stargazer It's more about how the classification can change when the athlete's disability hasn't. I know that matching the athlete's ability to swim won't be an exact science.

Pascoe used to be an SB9 in the breaststroke but is now an SB8.

I assume Pascoe has a few more medal chances

IM, butterfly and backstroke are her main events.
