AFL 2021

@mariner4life Well my wife is a mad Carlton fan, and as such I've adopted them as my team.
There are parallels to the other Blues team, based in Auckland, I think. It's just a team with an endemic culture of underachievement. Once it seeps into the carpets it's a very hard thing to get rid of.
They have the spine of a really good team. It's hard to believe they are going to have the Coleman winner (McKay), a Brownlow contender (Walsh) and an additional All Australian (Weitering), and finish lower on the table than they did last year.
Coaching seems to be an issue, but I think it runs much deeper. Just punting Teague and putting in Clarko or Lyon or Scott or whoever won't fix it.

Thumping the fuck out of Collingwood is always awesome
-
how good? The last weekend of H&A sees the top 4 all play each other!
Melbourne v Geelong, winner gets the minor premiership
Port v Bulldogs, Dogs have to win or they risk dropping out of the 4Lions have the Eagles in Brisbane, need to win well, and hope Port beat the Dogs
Sydney get the Gold Coast, but the chances of them finishing higher than 5th are remote.
GWS are in good form, and play Carlton, will still need to win to shore up a spot in the 8
8th is a shootout between Essendon, Freo and West Coast. The Bombers have the percentage, and play Collingwood, so should hold on.
Good last weekend heading in to finals.

actually, just looking at the ladder, and the recent form, this is the most open finals series i can remember. There is no "gimme" game, no team you want to avoid more than others. It wouldn't shock me to see any of the top 7 in the GF. I would be shocked if the Bombers made it.
-
@mariner4life And the top teams all have issues of their own to deal with. Injuries at Geelong, Sydney and the Bulldogs, Melbourne just being Melbourne, Port and the Lions are hot and cold.
I'm with you - nothing would surprise me this finals series. Throw in games without crowds or over in WA in front of neutral audiences and you've got an absolute lottery.

Eddie Betts to retire after this weekend's game
Would have to be one of the very few universally loved players in the comp. Absolute genius around the goals. Kicks a contender for goal of the year every few weeks. Incredible role model
Will be missed.

And a nice guy too. Got to meet him at an NBL game. He loves his hoops.

Was he the bloke plucked out of the VFL to debut in a GF and almost won best on ground?

No that was Marlon Pickett.
Houli started his career with the Bombers and was in and out of the side (more out than in) for a couple of seasons. Then the Tigers picked him up through the draft.

strong rumour Stuart Dew is gooorrrn on Monday
-
i think this is pretty cool, looking at the table as it stands currenlty
eagles, richmond, collingwood and adelaide have all played in grand finals in the last two or three years...and are all currently out of the payoff spots, obviously shit for thse fans but its cool how much things can change from one season to another, fans can hoestly believe "this year might be our year" every season

buddy's kicked 5 and hes only 9 off 1000

Am really only a casual fan of AFL and only watch the Crows (who?) when in contention (So not for few years ...), don't know tactics or structure only what works out good or bad.
But I think anyone who enjoys sport of any type would love what Eddie brings/brought. He just does freakish shit all.da.time!
Loved what he did in yellow/red/blue.
A highlights tape of Eddie would get you interested in the game.

Dees getting found out a bit by the Cats right now. Exposed on the outside. Cats goal kicking has been top drawer
