@shark Still backing Canterbury to be in the mix when it comes to the pointy end of the season , when you consider some of the personal they did not have available and could have been used in a match day 23 its very impressive Braydon Ennor,Waisake Naholo,Jack Debreczini, Callum Grace, Tom Christie ,Mitchell Dunshea and Brodie McAlister ..
To be honest when I looked at the Canterbury team , I thought it was always going to be a big ask to beat what was a very strong Auckland on paper , some of the names especially on the bench I had never heard of , those young guys will be better for the experience, but credit to Auckland for their composure especially when it shortened up to 24-28 .and let’s not forget they had some young guys on debut .

Also missing Reed Prinsep and Billy Harmon from that game.

Absolutely. One away loss with a very young team isn't the end of the world.

There might be some worries about the coaching staff but you could say the same for Auckland.

Will be interesting to see who of Kellow and Segner makes it through to the Crusaders squad proper, if both hang about

    I think Segner will be a 6.

He came off the bench to play 6 at the weekend.

He's apparently 1.92 metres, so a bit tall to be a mobile 7 and he looked like he'd added a bit of bulk since when I saw him last.

Yes same here. He really caught the eye. For a 19 year old on debut he was terrific.

Kellow looks a better prospect than Christie, IMO.

What a kicking fest ! Both teams tried to take benefit from the new 50-22 rule which worked only once, for Ruru. Very sloppy game (early times or mediocrity ?). No continuity at all. How many times did Plummer pass the ball to Corey Evans ? Just on one occasion during the first half, for a crash ball. The Canerbry backs were poor, incredibly poor, as was the refereeing. The only spectacle was the contest in the rucks, which was fierce. Maybe the strong wind did not help. I can only hope that these two teams are better than what we saw of them during this game.

It worked more than once. Rayasi had a huge left foot punt early on that resulted in an Auckland throw-in inside the Canterbury 22. It lead directly to Auckland's opening try.

Plus showers throughout he match and a big downpour just before kickoff. Conditions were really tough. So it was always going to be a limited game.. the error rate wasn't too bad considering how slippery and windy it was

I don't neccessarily disagree, but one good game off the bench at NPC level isn't much of a gauge from which to form that opinion. Christie is a great defensive openside flanker but offers little as a link man or wrecking ball. Bit like Sam Cane.

Kellow looks like Richie McCaw at the same age. We can only hope he will follow the same path. He is still very young.

Yep I agree, He does some special things for a 19 year old in one of the hardest positions in rugby.

I was expecting a monster after reading some of the comments on him but he didn't look any bigger than Jacobsen tbh.
