PIC Steelers:
- Ezekiel Lindenmuth,
- Joe Royal,
- Sekope Kepu,
- Matiaha Martin (co-capt),
- Viliame Rarasea,
- Sam Slade,
- Alamanda Motuga,
- Nili Latu,
- Cameron Roigard,
- Orbyn Leger (co-capt),
- Jarrod Halliday,
- Tanielu, Tele’a,
- Asaeli Tikoirotuma,
- Jared Page,
- Luteru Laulala.
Reserves:
Zuriel Togiatama, Suetena Asomua, Kalolo Tuiloma, Viliami Taulani, Hoskins Sotutu, Jonathan Taumateine, Riley Hohepa, Amanaki Savieti.Consistent with the trial team that lost last week. Here's hoping they sorted out a few things.
Looks good on paper with an interesting loosie selection. Presumably they will switch at some point to Slade at lock, Taulani on at 6, Sotutu on at 8.It's the midfield that needs to start gelling quickly. Probably the least firepower on the wings in a CM side for a very long time. We need ENS out of isolation fast.

@mikedogz What about the Legend Nili Latu - starting Number 8 at 39 years old! And keeping and all Black on the bench
He would be the shortest 8 in the comp wouldnt he?
-
@bayimports At 1.82 I would say so, even shorter than Ardie at 1.88! Also with Joe Royal starting at 36 years old there certainly going for experience for game one.
Edit: although not as short as Kwagga Smith who played 8 for the Boks recently at 1.80m according to wiki. -

I wonder if the coaches instructions are “just go hard for twenty minutes”?

A 50-22 kick within the first minute of play.
Right away we see why this is a bad idea. We’ll lose counter attacking rugby.

Didn’t see many successful ones in SR AU. Surprising that there has been two in this game already.
The theory is that more defenders will need to drop back and that will create space.
I understand but i think it is too easy to just use it when the opposition drops it or isn't in position - then line out, maul, try, bye viewers.
Perhaps we might get more set play rugby but we'll get less counter (at least, that's my bet).

It was rare in SR AU but they had plenty of attacking play. Maybe it worked?
We'll find out I guess, but I think they have a different mindset. At a meta level, this will just make test match rugby more boring - imagine if the Lions or SA could get rewarded for that in this series? Neither of those teams would see the attacking potential.

Nice try against a bad defensive line from set piece. Big hole from someone shooting up out of alignment.
-
Superb try from the Turbos ..slight change in alignment from the backs after the Steelers had been using the rush D with good effect ..like the look of TK Howden , looks an athlete
-
Brett Cameron looking very good so far. Looks to be enjoying himself without having a massive target on his back like he did throughout his time at Canterbury.
-
Great run from the Turbos 7 , but that D from the fullback was just awful, good finish from Cameron ..looks a very good pick up ..!

Have we heard the school of each player in this game, yet?
I think it took a full five minutes to hear Wainuiomata mentioned...
