Club teams won't have been named yet for the weekend, so not really a valid point.

it's not the first time that club games have counted anyway, didn't the same happen with the Pocock suspension?
-

has happened plenty of times, we all agree it sucks, but is a loophole they use and SANZAR don't seem fussed on closing it or even if they consider it an issue.

Yes, true, but the sentence of the judicial officer says that evidence was provided that he 'would have been selected to play in a club match on 30 April'. What else could that evidence be? I don't remember the Pocock ruling saying anything about evidence being provided he would play club rugby.
-

The only other thing that I could imagine as evidence of him going to play this Saturday is some document signed by the Saders effectively releasing him to the club to play.

I guess the thing is, knowing the possibility of players getting a ban over Bye week and it counting toward the overall ban, the Franchises have some system in place ready to deal with it?

You'd be dumb not to be ready for it should any player be facing the judiciary.
-

I've lost the will to complain about judiciary decisions. I just accept it's a lottery and move on.

Yeah, but he did avoid a week because one of his weeks was a bye week. So, again, difference in requirements.
-

Sanzaar's flawed judiciary exposed in ban on Nemani Nadolo
RICHARD KNOWLER
Last updated 17:48, April 26 2016

OPINION: Nemani Nadolo's four-week suspension has again laid bare the inconsistency of the Sanzaar judiciary.

Left wing Nadolo, the Crusaders' deadliest attacking weapon this season, will miss the side's next three matches against the Reds, Highlanders and Waratahs after pleading guilty to lifting halfback Tomas Cubelli from the ground and placing him in a dangerous position during the 40-14 win in Canberra last Sunday. The Crusaders have the bye this weekend.

While there is no question Nadolo was at fault, and footage shows him tipping over Cubelli in the 39th minute, that incident was not nearly as serious as the ugly mid-air collision involving midfielder Jason Emery and fullback Willie le Roux during the Highlanders' 15-14 loss to the Sharks in Dunedin on Friday night.

Despite Emery's offence being categorised as "mid-range" which carries a six week suspension, and the nasty incident forcing le Roux to leave the field for a concussion test, he only copped a four week ban. This suspension was reduced by two weeks because the committee took into account his clean record and the fact he apologised to the Sharks fullback.

The incident involving Nadolo, 28, was categorised as "low-end" which carries a four-week suspension, but when his disciplinary record, his guilty plea and the fact the tackle was reckless rather deliberate were taken into account he received a two-week discount.

However Sanzaar duty judicial officer Chris Morris, when taking into account World Rugby memorandums about the need to deter lifting tackles, said he found it necessary to add two additional weeks and now Nadolo won't be sighted until the round 14 match against the Blues in Auckland on May 28.

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder, who wouldn't comment on the severity of the ban, said it was important to emphasise that Nadolo was not a grub.

"He is not a dirty player, there was nothing intentional about it. He is not the sort to try and put another player at risk, and there is no way I would condone anything like that from one of my players," Blackadder said.

"It was just an accident that could have gone horribly wrong. It was 130kg against 79kg and the way the player landed on the ground it could have been quite serious.

"Credit to Nemani for pleading guilty. There's not a lot we can do now but get on with it, really."
Given Nadolo had pleaded guilty, the Crusaders decided it wasn't worth appealing the ban believing it wouldn't have been reduced.
Blackadder must now concentrate on who to employ as a replacement for Nadolo, who has been the competition's top offloader, one of the best at making line breaks and has scored four tries this season.

With Johnny McNicholl expected to recover from the toe injury that prevented him appearing against the Brumbies, there is the option of returning him to the right wing and transferring Jone Macilai to the left flank.

Robbie Fruean, who can also play on the wing but is best suited to centre, is not far away from making his return from a long-term chest injury. Moving fullback Israel Dagg to the wing isn't likely to be considered, because Blackadder wants to let him build-up his confidence in his preferred position. Sione Fifita, who has not played Super Rugby this season, is still recovering from a broken ankle.

Blackadder is also hoping to use Nadolo's enforced break to sharpen his edge before they face the Blues, followed by the Chiefs in Fiji a week later.

"While he is serving his time, it will give us an opportunity to show we can perform without him as well as freshening him up. We will take the best out of the situation and make it work for us."
