Who would have thought before the Games that Australia would not make the semis and that Fijiana would?
Anyone paying attention would have gone 50-50 on that
-
@nta I didn't find Fijiana so convincing during the Oceania Sevens that I thought they were better than the Aussies; would still have given the Aussies the better chance of a spot in the Top 4. During the Games, Fijiana definitely lifted their game.

In RWC2003 we hosted the best event seen in this country since the Olympics, and probably since. We squandered that opportunity in short order.
The Gold medal in 2016 has a similar feel - other nations have advanced their women's game, and I know on the ground women's participation is up, but we simply haven't capitalised on it.
Players like Green and Caslick are playing league to get a bit of extra money, and because they're wasn't regular competition in 7s sure to rugby's sheet ineptitude here.

They beat us once during that series, and that was enough for me. We weren't firing except for the odd individual break, and Fiji soaked that up.

@nta Do they play in the women's NRL?
Yeah a few of the girls played the NRLW

Just thinking. Women's 7s needs more depth if Not-Russia is a QF.
Having said that am surprised Canada missed out.

The qualification process probability creates a bit of a mess.

They were dysfunctional until they hit a team who didn't defend a line well

7-0 to great poms, but tbh the skills on show by both teams are rather average
Great tap and go

Saying that, yeah great defence, 12-0 from that. But she very very nearly dropped that tap!
-
Brilliant defence and turnover for the second try

They're d Def a fast ott of the gate team. Can they keep it up this time?
-
@machpants said in 2020 -> 2021 Olympic Sevens (Tokyo):
Smothering d by GB, impressive. 14-0
GBR speed is the key - yanks can't even get a run-up at it BUT they need to change their tactics: get someone running a pop ball next to the ruck and crash through, them release

They looked surprisingly fragile in the lead up games against NZ. It's weird given the standard they've set and the talent around.

21-0, great step. GB will be in the final if they carry this on. USA have no idea what to do, totally clueless, they really need to get an offload away art some point....
And a coupler of offloads, try. What a surprise

They need to stick close to the ruck and just bash the shit out of it. Quit looking wide
