@crucial ah I was wondering if they used clips.
They use MTB ones as they are built into the shoe and don’t stick out. If they used roadie ones it would be difficult to walk up the ramps
I'd rather struggled up the ramp than struggled on the course! I use Shimano SPDs for road and MTB, they stick out, so I'm trying Google what MTB clips are.
I assumed they mean the inset SPDs as opposed to those mounted completely outside the sole.
Yeah I think that's about it, from my Google.

It might be the case with all the fighting sports? Is there 3/4 fights for judo, Taekwondo or karate?
