big afternoon of rugby at Okara Park in pretty dire conditions.
But man gotta say that surface is great, 3 games and fans on after each match, held up bloody well!!
Prem Reserve Final: Mid Northern 8 Kamo 6
Kamo will rue taking a penalty kick with 5 on the clock 10m out in front of the posts rather than a scrum, when they had been dominating up front all daySouth Zone Final: MId Western 27 Otamatea 20
MW were up 15-6 as they turned into a strong wind, but hit first after the break to lead 20-6, but was tied up 20-20 inside the last 10.Premier Final: Western Sharks 10 Mid Northern 7
MN will rue many lost opportunities after dominating posession in what seemed like 90% in the first 30 mins, being held up over the line twice and bundled into touch in goal another time.
Game was still tied up at 0-0 after 55 mins before the Sharks scored a well worked try, and then extended it with a penalty to lead 10-0 with 20 to go, but MN werent gonna roll over and scored a nice try of thier own, and then blew a massive opportunity with 5 or so to go when they ran it instead of spinning it to the unmarked player in acres of space. Sharks held on to take thier 1st title as the skies lightened for the first time today. All in all, I thnk the Sharks deserved this, they have been the best side all year, and despite conditions, all 3 games produced some great rugby.
Premier Captains Corey Te Whata-Colley and Jordan Olsen with the pre-match toss...bare feet and work boots!!

Nothing to see here, just some club footy played in beautiful Wellington weather. Someone call a lifeguard. 😂
-
@canes4life Did you see the penalty kick someone did in those conditions was incredible.
-
@taniwharugby Sharks Northland players ,Te Whata Colley,Kautafa and Matich all stood up..
-
Epic club final in Horowhenua. Pram v Levin COB. Still tied after extra time, then extra time golden point.
The last try by COB in extra time was an outrageous obstruction, so justice in end for paraparaumu to get a golden point penalty.
IMO .... based on grassroots highlights, of about 5 of the hundred odd minutes ...

Not heard of Kahurangi before (in Ta$man). Is that an amalgamation?
@Chris-B ? Your part of the world. It is - but, it's been around for several years now.
It's Riwaka and several others - offhand I can't remember which and can't immediately find the answer - but, possibly an umbrella to field an amalgamated senior team, whilst individual clubs still have the numbers to field Junior teams.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's Riwaka, Tapawera, Murchison and maybe Huia.

@chris-b
Right, they seem to be identified just as 'Kahurangi Rugby', rather than Kahurangi Rugby Club. So that makes sense.Man, their kit was ghastly. I wondered if it was just a change kit as they clashed with Marist. But, sadly no. Looks like their normal kit from a google search.
Not sure if they want to build a permanent identity or not. If not, then going right way about it with that meh kit.
The kit bitch police has arrrived. No thread is safe from me, even hard working grassroots people working hard to provide their locals with prem opportunities, sadly, are not safe from my kit bitch treatment. Gotta calla spade a spade ....
-
@rapido Wouldn't surprise me if they also encompass the old Golden Bay clubs as well, because those don't have teams in Division 1 of the club comp.
I think there might only be 6 Nelson senior teams and a similar number from Marlborough and part of the season they play a joint competition.
I gather the overall standard is pretty high, but there have also been occasional defaults - so it's a bit worrying.

@mikedogz Out of interest, do Putaruru still play in blue and red, i.e., the same colours as Te Rapa?
Bit late back to this thread.
Confusing as fuck. Just had to talk a lot and really know your team mates.

@mikey07 I have been up home for the last week (and probably need to be up here for a few more) so have missed out on things like the above. It seems like the MSP players have not learnt a single thing from the disgusting 7s incident (that has resulted in a three year ban won by MSP from all 7s in Wgtn) against Petone last year.
-
@mikey07 that doesn’t surprise me one bit. The decision makers at Wellington Rugby have always, and will continue to be a bunch of tugboats.
That’s disgusting behaviour if it’s Whitman but I will refrain from judging him until he’s proven guilty and all that.
MSP need to sort their shit out.

@canes4life Of course but If it was him would be a nice reward getting a NPC contract…
