Highlanders v Sharks

I'm not that fussed, but an apology on twitter is taken with a ginormous grain of salt by Billy Tell.

Yes they are, but that's life now. Perhaps he should have just left an apology to the rugby world on his website.
Agreed. Thankfully he's not, but it is a risk, albeit small, in a collision sport where accidents can and do happen.
-

Red cards just completely ruin a game of rugby.

Time for an overhaul.

Yellow card 10 minutes in bin
Orange card 20 minutes in bin
Red Card sent off for entire match (only to be used for deliberately intending to injure a player through foul play i.e stamping on a head, king hitting someone, kicking someone on the ground etc.

Orange cards should come with a mandatory 1 or 2 week suspension. Red cards 4 weeks+

Nah, I don't really see the point coming up with various different degrees of punishments. It'd also be really weird for a player to get sent off for 20 minutes, come back on, play up to another half or so of rugby and then get a 1-2 week suspension straight after that. If it's bad enough to get suspended, they shouldn't be back on the field at all.

I think the current system is fine. As shit as they always are, let the judiciary decide exactly how bad the crime is.

Besides, that game wasn't ruined anyway. The Landers still should've won it but they played shit rugby and deserved to lose in the end.
-

plenty of games are ruined by a RC, and while there are options for changing how it is done, it needs to be weighed up with the chance there will be the odd complete muppet willing to sacrifice themselves....

-
YC - 10 minutes in the bin
RC - player sent off. After 20 minutes you can bring on another player to bring it back to 15-a-side.

That's what I'd like to see. -

Mate in a world where their are huge question marks on civil behaviour, piss poor parenting and a sense of personal entitlement, I think these public apologies do more good than harm

Just to have some exposure to this type of behaviour (being accountable for actions) may do some good to some people somewhere

It's certainly favourable to pissing and moaning on social media, which people are also exposed to
-

That was a wierd game. Sharks seemed like whitebait for most of the match.

Never seen A Smith so full of vitriol for an opposition. Was one time (after Fekitoa was picked up and carried in the tackle by 2 or 3 Sharks) when he turned round and gave the Shark player a real mouthful. He's normally animated, but more so focused on his own performance and motivating team mates.

i think maybe Landers were trying too hard at times, trying to force the issue - the rushed kicks, quick throws and poor option taking all seem to point to that. Just need to relax a bit more, keep cool heads and the points will come.
-

If we are letting the judiciary decide then we should go back to how league handles it and juts put people on report. They never get sent off in league.

I prefer it that way.

The game wasnt ruined? Not sure what game you watched.. it ruins every single game. -

League does have yellow and red card equivalents, don't they? They're just fucking lax in how they're applied and seeing as they only just banned shoulder charges last year, they're the last ones I'd look to copy in that area. Rugby's light years ahead of them.

And no, the game wasn't ruined. The Landers had plenty of chances to win and win comfortably but they fucked almost each and every one of them up. It was frustrating to watch but it had nothing to do with only having 14 men on the field.
-

I reckon it was a really good game last night. If a red card hadn't been given then I think the Highlanders probably would have won by 15 points. The red card actually improved the game by giving us a close contest (not that that is a good reason to give one). Maybe some people would like to see more tries but I can enjoy a 15-14 still.

-

Jeez I thought it was a shit game....Highlanders were thier own worst enemy with dumb decisions and poor handling as were the Sharks with thier crap at the breakdown and all round poor play

The loss of Edmunds is a big one. Without him, the Landers scrum looks weak. His absence is also felt in the loose. I rate him highly, more than Reggie Goodes who has a lot of fans in this forum.

He can also play both sides too, so would have been a good choice for the 5th prop in the ABs.
