Peaky Blinders is running at Ellerslie on Saturday. Over more ground so is a chance I imagine.

PLayed 36 holes of golf there on Sunday. Great course. Needs fairways to be fixed properly. (Someone accidently put round up on all 18 fairways thinking it was Fert. They re-sowed but it never properly took as it coincided with two years of drought)

Presume it wasnt as wet as it was up here? Played whitford (great course) and was raining all morning, freshly cored greens and PLAY THE FKN LIE!!! Had an 86 which included numerous sandy 3 putts and penalty (as well as lost hole) for playing the wrong ball!

I played a 72 hole tournie there many years ago, went down with a few other Northland juniors, me and another dude got billieted out with a local Junior, he took us to a party on Saturday night, got back at 6am, 0745 tee time for 36 holes...I shot 76,93....

Cool course though.
-

Peaky Blinders has drawn barrier 6. Sweet!

Because true-love goes to the track a bit later her horses don't feature in trackwork stats but she thinks he is doing better work that some other good horses.\Quietly confident he go well in this feild and it looks as though we will have 2+3 on top for third successive race before he goes to Japan.
-

Hooroo what are the logistics involved in transporting a horse to Japan?

I'm guessing there are companies that do this but is it a stressful time for owners and trainers or is it basically just like a horse float for hours and hours?

Any stops or direct? Horses just on their own in a special enclosure? Medicines to zonk them out? Cost a fortune? How many days to recover from the flight etc

I'm sure it's somewhat routine as I haven't heard of disasters but curious to know a bit more
-

Special planes to carry horses, just like a flying float. There are procedures if a horse sparks up but they try not to sedate before the flight (I think). Thre are direct and via Australia flights

It's a costly exercise but not an uncommon one.

I've heard of an awful story that I can't bring myself to publish but it happened a long time ago and there would be different procedures in place now.
-

The story of Vanderford?
-
What's he going to do in Japan? A permanent move, or there for a race or season?

I think he is there for a month? He has been there before throughout the years and I think he did a bit of his apprenticeship there
-

Just sent you a couple of PM's! Maybe it was. I thought for some reason it was on way to Malaysia
-

The harness market to US is firing up again, due to the NZD weakening against the USD, but the hardest part for the horses is the trip. From what I'm told by a bloodstock agent, the regular flight to the States is: Christchurch-Auckland-Sydney-Shanghai-Anchorage-JFK and horses can't disembark unless it's their end destination.

they get a better deal than humans in cattle class:

No arm rest fights

No trips to the toilet

No reclining hassles

Food'd be the same

No Chinese passengers getting their bags from overhead as the plane touches down

Clear turbulence when the plane drops a few hundred feet might be nasty though
