Napier has enough attacking flair, but - just like last week - handling errors let them down.

How much time to go @Stargazer? I need to go out for hikoi before the games this afternoon - but am sitting here following your commentary. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Errr, try to Rotorua.

Hastings now leads 24 to 17, with about 13-15 minutes to go.

Napier can't find a way to stop Hamilton's driving maul. Another try. Hamilton is looking good again, this year.

Hamilton now leads 27 to 7.

There's a big difference between Napier's starters and reserves. It's a big step down.

Hastings' no. 18 sent to the bin. Didn't see what happened.

A Napier back gets injured, Hamilton kick the ball in his direction and chasing. And the lad still gets up, limps, to defend. Dedication, but he's done again. A few phases later, and Hamilton is in again.

Hastings' defence is struggling with a man in the bin, but keep them out. For now.

    Full time!

    Napier Boys 7 - 32 Hamilton Boys

Great effort in the first half and there wasn't much separating both teams, but the difference was very noticeable in the second half and Hamilton fully deserves the win!

    Hastings Boys 24 - 17 Rotorua Boys

Great game, not so great stream. This is a very good Rotorua team, so Hastings with 14 players defending and keeping them from scoring at the death was a massive effort. This is a good Hastings team. Not sure whether they're 2017 or 2019 level good, but they have some great individual players. Please, HBRU, sign Cooper and lock him in for several years. The poachers will be watching, too.

Penalty goal for Napier Boys, who are the first on the board.

    3 - 0 Napier.

It's still nill all in the Hastings' game.

Repeated infringements (mostly players being offside) seeing a NP player sent to the bin. This may have been for a high tackle.

Try to Rotorua off the driving maul. There was no way of stopping that. The conversion is good.

    7 - 3 Rotorua

It's still 0 - 0 in the Hastings' game, despite Hastings being hot on attack at times. Now a line-out close to the NP try line.

Napier players are carrying too high. Second time a player is held up and ref calls "maul". Another turnover.

Damn a try in both games. Not for the good guys.

Great break in the Napier game for Rotorua's number 10 Tome Cooper, who's really good.

An intercept try for NP in the other.

    Rotorua leads 14 - 3.

    New Plymouth leads 7 0.

    Come on boys!

That NP try was totally against the run of play.

Rotorua is clearly better than Napier though.

The ball handling from Hastings is beautiful. They just can't finish their attacks just yet. Flanders, Pese and Pasikala in the forwards; Dicky and Tupou in the backs are excellent.

Try to Kaihau Pasikala! Totally deserved. They're the better team.

Hoera Stephenson converts and it's 7 all.
