As I have mentioned before I was at the test. No sofas to hide behind in sight. I remember Waqar bowling Latham very well.
Morrison bowled really well in this test, for no reward.
Pretty standard for most of his career to be fair, always a guy I admired lots.
None other than Allan Border said he was one of the toughest bowlers he ever faced which considering the era AB played was a pretty incredible compliment !

I always felt a bit sorry for Parore being asked to jump about the order - I mean they asked him to bat #3 vs attacks of the quality of 90s Pakistan and South Africa FFS. He never achieved his real potential as a batsman TBH, though he was probably more technically sound than 5/6ths of the other batsmen in his team.
Slightly tongue in cheek, I vaguely remember a few occasions where Parore was holding a technically perfect defensive shot while the stumps were broken behind him. Probably a reflection of both his technique and the quality of the bowlers around back then.
Wasim and Waqar. The '93 chase at Seddon Park v Pakistan is the reason why I will never be able to relax in a small run chase ever
Waqar didn’t actually open the bowling interestingly enough. Aaqib Javed did. I remember that game very well, With a line up consisting of Blair Hartland, Rod Latham, Ken Rutherford, Chris Harris, Murphy Sua, Dipak Patel and Michael Owens did we expect any other result ?
Given we also played Andrew Jones, Mark Greatbatch, and Adam Parore, yes, we did expect a slightly higher second innings total at the time.

I remember that game. Still makes me nervous when we walk out to bat on the final day of a test

Jones was a good un, the other two were massive underachievers at test level.

Really disappointing decision from Immigration New Zealand
South African born Otago Volt, Dean Foxcroft has been denied entry into New Zealand. Otago Cricket has been informed twice in the last month, that Immigration NZ (IMZ) will not approve an exception to its border restrictions.
As a result, Foxcroft will not be able to represent Otago in the upcoming 2021/22 domestic season.
Otago Cricket have been working through numerous application processes with Immigration New Zealand, since the Covid-19 led lockdown hit in March 2020, meaning Foxcroft will miss a second consecutive season with Otago.
Otago Cricket Chief Executive Mike Coggan reflected on this news.
“We are devastated for Dean. He has made a formal commitment with New Zealand Cricket to make himself available, through the qualifying process, to play for the BLACKCAPS but due to the current Government restrictions in place he is unable to get back into the country to meet these commitments.”
“He is absolutely distraught, and we are too. Over the past 18 months we have done everything possible to get him back to Otago and at every turn our applications have been denied. He sees himself as a New Zealander who aspires to play for New Zealand one day. We will not give up on supporting Dean to realise his goals”.
Dean’s exclusion from the Otago Volts squad means a final two contracts will be named on the 7th of July to complete the squad of sixteen (16).

Great to see that the world champs warrant one three test series while the team they beat gets two 3s a 4 and a 5.
EDt: In fact it is set up to nobble us. India and Oz get 19 and 18 tests (England get 21!) in which to get a high % of wins. We have to do the same in 13 with more than half of those away. ICC are pricks.
-
Im guessing the two tests we just played against England dont count for anything, except pride?
-
@crucial yeah pretty much. If lightening were to strike twice look out for the 2 of the big 3 that don't make it to have a fucking cry about how much harder it is with more tests, and that we didn't even play them (aye Aussie you fucking stains)
-
If the ICC reverts back to points to decide the next finalists then playing only a 2-test series can have its advantages. There are 120 pts per series so that will be 60 pts per test win as opposed to 24 pts in a 5 test series. Of course, the NZ players want to play more, but you wouldn't put it past the ICC to tweak their system (again) to get their desired result.

really no reason why our 2 home series vs SA and SL cant be 3 matches.
Well there is a reason...im assuming both series will have about 190 T20i matches between them.....You answered your own question unfortunately.
I am hoping our recent success will breathe more life into the oldest and purest form of the game but unfortunately this probably would have occurred more on a greater scale if India won.

I’d like to hear the justification for longer series between certain countries.
“Because we are the best teams” holds about as much water as the Mary Roseit's money. and history. and they are unashamedly all about that
I mean, England won 7 and lost 24 tests against Australia between 1990 and 2004 (when they sorted themselves out), 7 times by an innings, another 10 times by at least 8 wickets/200 runs. Were they relegated to 2 test "tours" at the start of the summer? were they fuck. 5 prime tests for the Ashes regular as clockwork.
They do not give a fuck. Which is why that win was so much sweeter.

Highlights the simple fact that we are a tier 2 cricket nation.
We can win all the fucking trophy's in the cricketing world (and make finals), that wont change a thing.
I do love the tradition of the Ashes, the story, the history etc. Long may that continue…….but the fact is nowadays we are CONSIDERABLY better than one of the teams who contests it ( Aus should fucken kill them at the end of the year ) and should be rewarded with longer series.
But yeah will it happen anytime soon ? Doubtful……
Instead as a refreshing change we get Bangladesh touring for two tests ( which will be two consecutive arse rapings ) and South Africa.
At least England to their credit are giving us three tests there next year.

They have changed.
Not based on series anymore.
12 points for a win, 4 for a draw. The leaderboard based on points per match.NZ are hamstringing themselves by only playing 2 test series at home. One of our away test series will be 3 matches. We will have 7 away tests and 6 home tests in this cycle. David White. H@te2 teSt cr!cket.
If NZ wants to give itself best chance of making final again it should be piling on the number of home tests v Bang and SL.
If NZ wants a few more tests because they actually like good cricket, then they should make the home series v SA 3 tests.
-
@rapido Really? What's the point then if the teams don't play the same number of tests? The
BCCIICC should just decide who plays in the final now and save us the effort. An away tour to Pakistan, the first in decades, will be a big challenge for NZ.

It's an imperfect system anyway, regardless. As in everyone doesn't play everyone.
I'm not sure if this is better or worse.
