Otago 2021
-
what do we think the backline will be based on what we know
- Hammington
- Ioane
- Nareki
- TUJ
- Faddes
- Vahaakolo?
- Koroi
i would love if we could keep the backline fit and on the field for a few games in a row
-
Here's the majority of the squad.
Hammington
Ioane
Nareki
TUJ/Tomkinson/Nu'u
Faddes
Vahaakolo?/Tomkinson
Koroi/GilbertThere's plenty of choices. I wouldn't mind seeing a midfield of Nu'u and TUJ
It is probably the best playing group I can remember over the last decade.
-
@kiwiwomble Maybe Sio at 13, Gilbert/Vahaakolo, Faddes at 15. Timu is injured?
Many options at midfield. I thought that William Tufui will be in the squad.
Some spot avalaible 11/14, Viliami Fine was outstanding with the Hawks
-
@southernmann Morris-Lome ?
-
He's played really well over the last couple of years.
But, how can you pick him in front of the top four.

ive said it before and i'll say it again...im an OBHS old boy and i was stoked when Sio came through...but the risk v rewards just isn;t there for me except maybe on the wing, he charges out of the line every time and if he doesn't get carded for a late/high tackle he leave a big hole outside him, and on attack he doesn;t distribute well enough, no one seems to be able to anticipe what hes going to do so on the odd time he breaks the line...he has no support, all people being fit he wouldn't be in my 23 anymore
I would love to go back and see all his tries for the HIghlanders, i would say the vast majority are short ball off Smith, basically busting over from 5m like a loosie, he doesn't create anything like a normal back
i had forgotten about Gilbert, will be good to be able to rotate a bit
I'm assuming Faddes might have lost a yard or two with age so was thinking more towards midfield
-
@southernmann yes, but Morris-Lome is contracted?

Morris-Lome is playing in the MLR, does that overlap with NPC or can people play both?
-
That's an updated list from the ORFU that seems to have gone up this morning.
So, can't see any reason why it wouldn't be correct.
From the looks of things there's some gaps for a
Third halfback
Third hooker
A prop or two, including Hisa Sasagi
Two locks
Two or three lose forwards
Third first five
A couple of outside backs -
@southernmann hopefully all the "third" positions are taken by u20 guys, we have two u20 NZ halfbacks in the Highlanders, surely one of them if from otago?
-
@kiwiwomble Hastie
-
-
@southernmann
Hooker: Henry Bell
Props: Aoina?
Locks: Hill, Knapp, Holland ?
Loosies: Whithy, Elton, Fischli, Leo-Willie
First-five: Levi Emery, Boyle (if he return) -
Naholo playing club rugby in Dunedin....
-
@kiwiwomble surely he can play in the NPC. Would be good to see him back there.
-
@yeetyaah yeah, its interesting because he always played for taranaki, only played club when in dunners for the Highlanders....so why come down unless he was going to try and play for otago
i would feel a bit sorry for Freedom though he he did
-
@kiwiwomble I'm just keen to see a potential list assembled on paper. Seems like it could be pretty exciting and when you add in the likes of Naholo potentially, possibly on a similar level to the Highlanders' backs.
