Then Southee sprays it way down the leg side to the tail ender first ball...

Something that hopefully might help us is if the Indian's Duke ball doesn't swing too much for the first 10 overs, that's going to be five overs out of each of their new ball bowlers tanks.

If we battle hard for the first 20 overs, they'll pretty much have to start bowling their spinners.

I'd like to think we are better equipped to combat the swing after having been in country for a few weeks

@canefan maybe, but there's a run rate to bear in mind too. Don't want to block out maidens from their spinners.

Maybe this is the test where Southee gets his elusive test 100. Since he's not having his usual success elsewhere

The new ball and Southee and Boult has been very disappointing. Coincided with India's quickest 50 runs of the innings. Let them off the hook when Wags and Kyle had them on the ropes

That dropped catch could be the difference. Take that and we might be batting straight after lunch. As it is, India might put on another 30-40.

Our noses probably just in front. Would have been bloody nice to hold Jadeja - not someone who should be given chances.

I'm off to bed - hopefully won't wake to find the good ship Black Caps on the rocks! 🙂

A good session but India have runs in the board, and they'll back themselves to run through us as well. Test is really in the balance still.

Fine session, could have been near perfect but a really important session win.

Evenly poised. But runs on the board always means something in cricket

Wish they could have a 10 minute lunch - arvo forecast not as good as the morning one.
