Cricket 2021: NZ in England and WTC Final
-
I think, in a normal game the test is reasonably evenly poised - but, in reality, I think India has their noses in front.
In the WTC Final, runs on the board are worth more than usual and they have some. Plus they have probably almost defused our best chance of winning - which was to run through their top order in the first innings.
Starting to look like it will be a four day test, which means one team will have to fall in a heap somewhere to lose - and India are a fair way towards avoiding that in their first innings.
Not all is lost, but I reckon we need to come out this evening and knock a couple of them over quickly - bowling them out for 250 would still be a good result.

Agreed. Given the timeframe available, I’m surprised that the comments on here are as positive as they are. I think they’ve blown any chance of winning, and if India puts up a good score this evening we’ll be one Black Caps’ collapse away from a very good chance of losing it.

India still have a very capable keeper batsman and two all rounders to come who all have the potential to frustrate the fuck out of us with runs.
Oh and Kohli is still in.

India definitely comfortably on top, they'll be thrilled with that return - best player still out there and only 3 down. The only thing giving us a sniff is their slow run rate, but we're going to have to take 7 for 100 odd to really get back into it. And then we have to bat in really tough conditions against a world class attack.

Indeed. Our pace attack is probably about neck and neck with theirs and they have two outstanding spinners.

I think I almost forgot how good the Indian batsmen are. Their strategy of getting out and meeting the ball was ballsy and worked a treat. That was some bowling friendly conditions if ever there were and the batting tactics of leaving and playing dead straight and out of the crease were just what was needed.
To restrict kohli to that strike rate proved that we bowled bloody well. Just high calibre test cricket all round. Colin vs Kohli was a like a suspense movie of patience.
This Indian team under Kohli and Shastri has shown remarkable flexibility lately. Beating Aus with about 4 front line players absent, ( including the captain and best player) and now batting so cleverly in England in June conditions makes old stereotypes and features of Indian cricket irrelevant. They even tear it up running between the wickets which has never been a feature. A truly remarkable team and deservedly the best in the world.
And we haven't been bad at all. Everyone bowled well. Jamieson to Pujara early on was brilliant. For this high class skill event we really need to grab every half chance - it's just the way these small margin games go. Kane hitting the stumps on the Rahane tight single was one that could've been an omen, a good one.
Riveting 60 odd overs. Both teams playing high standard cricket and India slightly in front due to weather, occasion but mostly patience and discipline.
Good stuff. Lots to play out yet though.

I think I noted when we were playing Oz a couple of years ago - that they hit the stumps a lot more often than we did and that Little Kane isn't really a great groundfielder - OK, but no better than that.
What really needed to happen was for someone else to yell out, "It's Rossco"!
He would have run him out for sure!

De Grandhomme better front with the bat in this game. Otherwise his whole tour is just going to consist of a lot of military medium wicketless overs.
Hopefully he can winkle out a couple of wickets today. His batting under pressure is pretty suspect

Let's play a one off game if some magnitude in England in early summer. What could possibly go wrong?

That crazy incorrect review of Colins lbw to sharma.
Anyone else not hear the inside edge live? I just thought it hit him square. Got myself quite excited.
Been some odd audio this trip. Metallic bats in the first one and dull thuds in this one🙂To be fair when I saw it live I thought it was an excellent shout. I would have reviewed it myself.
CDG probably should have noticed the inside edge though.
