Article about today's game between Napier and Hastings Boys, particularly about the Leutele Malasia twins.
Teams for today's 12noon encounter:
Napier Boys' High School: 15 Sam Kanthavong, 14 Adam Curran, 13 Bethel Leutele Malasia (vice captain), 12 Kaitiaki Broughton, 11Korie Paio, 10 Afa Moleli, 9Joel Russell, 8 Gilgal Leutele Malasia (captain), 7 Max Ratcliffe (vice captain), 6 Lochi Mead, 5 Guy von Dadelszen, 4 Nicholas Ennor, 3 Gus Brown, 2 Tyrone Chrystal, 1 Jared Martin.
Substitutes: 16 Tulitaluai Faleiva, 17 Ta$man Soanai Oeti, 18 William Rickey, 19 George Manson, 20 Jovian Cleal, 21 Tim Slabbekoorn, 22 Dougal Kerr.Hastings Boys' High School: 15 Bryson Crawford-Pakoti, 14 Josiah Sakaria, 13 Mefi Tupou, 12 Tali Ioasa, 11 Alex Dickey, 10 Hoera Stephenson, 9 Phillip King-Panapa, 8 Cooper Flanders (captain), 7 James Pese, 6 Kaihau Pasikala, 5 Taufa Kaufononga, 4 Tom Allen, 3 Avian Rihia, 2 Josh Rautahi, 1 Aone Lolofie.
Substitutes: 16 Vikta Tevita, 17 John Palu, 18 Josh Leach, 19 Osca Ritchie, 20 Jordi Viljoen, 21 Preston Whatarau, 22 Bryson Ioane. On paper, I'd say Napier Boys has the stronger team. The battle between the two number 8s will be interesting. Gilgal is staying in the Bay according to the article; I hoper Cooper stays, too. Our no. 8 factory is still strong, and I'd like to see both stay in the Academy, but the poachers will be licking their lips, although they may only know Cooper.

The ref ends the first half after a Napier player goes down with - what looks like a serious - knee injury. Can't see who it is.
So 3 - 3 is the half time score.
Damn, that's a real battle. Teams evenly matched?

Hastings are using Cooper Flanders often in the line-out. He's a real pain in Napier's backside. Very good. He also seems to have matured since last year. He's not trying to do everything himself anymore.
Hoera Stephenson attempts a penalty kick, but it's short.

Great try from Napier! I think that was Gilgal Leutele Malasia, but jerseys are so dirty, I can't read the numbers anymore.
Thoroughly deserved. They were in Hastings' 22 for a while and are stronger at setpiece. Dominating the scrum in this half.
The try goes uncorverted.
13 - 8 Hastings.

Hastings steal the ball; that looked totally illegal, but the ref didn't see it.
It's full time: Napier Boys 8 - Hastings Boys 16
There really isn't much between these teams. I'd say Napier Boys' setpiece is better and their forwards look stronger. Their ball handling is worse though (many knock-ons). Flanders' decisions and Stephenson's boot (11 points) won this game for Hastings.

If I'd had to pick an Under-18 team from this game, I would have too many loosies. There's much talent in both backrows.
I'd probably pick Hastings' LH prop Lolofie and Napier's TH prop Brown. Not sure about the hookers.
For the locks, I'd definitely pick Ennor, if only for his size. Don't know about the other one.
From the backs, I'd probably pick Hastings' 9, 10, 12 and 13 and Napier's 13 (moving him to the left wing) and 14. I'd put Napier's Moleli at fullback.
