Williamson fails with the bat again. NZ 62-2 at the close with a lead of 165.

Draw looking the most likely result.

That was a difficult stumping chance for BJ, but a costly miss in the end

Frustrating to lose a day for rain, and for the tail to really wag for england, and for us to collapse in the first innings, and for KW to not really contribute. And we're stlil ahead in the game 🙂

Seriously, though, for a result we'd need to score 150 quickly I think, and leave them 60 overs to chase it. And even then a draw would be the odds on.

Not sure that an aggressive declaration is what we need, particularly with a slow pitch. offering 250 at 4/over would be more tempting, but could too easily see a quick 50 losing the game.

Is this KW's lowest match aggregate? Must be amongst them, surely

Kane will be very keen to get in the runs next match after failing twice

Something satisfying about this series not really mattering, only a warm up for the WTC. Given the way the UK press refer to every single non Aus series as Ashes prep, nice to be on the other foot.

Still support the boys and hope for a win, but getting the guys into form is all that matters.

The bowlers are coming along nicely, even Mitch was troubling the batsmen with some turn and bounce. With Boult expected to come back it will be interesting to see who makes way. If there is any chance the pitch for the final will take spin I can't see us not taking Mitch, so maybe Colin is out. Even though the English commentators reckon he is the type of bowler who does well in CC with their conditions I don't want them to drop Wags

England all out for 275. Last stand was 52.

That last wicket stand probably saving England having a jittery last day. Break that one cheaply and we could have been 230 ahead overnight - and aimed to set them something like 350 off 75 overs.

Don't think there's enough time left for us to safely force a result - best chance of a result is for England to bowl us out cheaply and then see how they go - but, I don't want to see that!!!

It will be Colin or Satnav - probably Colin. With Southee, Boult Jamieson and Wagner, we don't need a 5th seamer.

When I saw them review that LBW (with 1 review left) it looked a desperate act. To my eyes it was missing leg and going over the top. Not that I'm doubting hawk eye but .... OK I'm doubting it.

Why not Colin as the containing spinners role? ( rhetorical question, chris🙂).
No spinner we've got will contain the Indians. Colin can bowl 8 or 9 in a spell. If they're both going to bat for less than hour, might as well be a boundary hitter. Give the Indians no spinner to wait on or milk. Swap Boult for satner, and then it's up to Colin to deliver on his line and length - something satner is patently not capable of doing, unless slipped out of the grip, full toss is a line and length.

@siam Whichever one we play will be a weak link. But, let's pray we don't get a spinners pitch! Who's in England who can sneak in at night and water the fucking thing! 🙂

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if we replaced both with Boult and Mitch Junior - to bat at 6.

I would hope Stead uses these 2 tests to look at the options for the 5th bowler and plays Mitchell in the 2nd test. Unfortunately, I doubt he is!

    What are we thinking?

Quickfire 120, set them 300 to win in say 80 overs?
