@crucial said in Cricket 2021: NZ in England and WTC Final:
AT A GLANCE
First cricket test at Lord’s, London, day one Wednesday 10pm (NZT):
England (from): Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, Joe Root (captain), Ollie Pope, Dan Lawrence, James Bracey, Craig Overton, Ollie Robinson, Olly Stone, Mark Wood, Jack Leach, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.
New Zealand: Tom Latham, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson (captain), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Matt Henry (one to be omitted).
TAB odds: England $1.85, NZ $2.80, draw $4.80
So looks to me like Conway debuting and opening and one of Santner/CDGH to miss out....but then if both play and Henry misses out we have a bloody strong tail !
We’re up against one very good batsmen, a few journeymen, two ancient pacemen and a bunch of unknowns, surely we got this ?

Apparently one of Henry and Jamieson to miss out although they could be looking to pull a surprise.
KW has talked about the need for a spinner (although god knows why Santner is there then) and that CDGs bowling style suits the pitches. -

KW mentioned specifically that they are finding the pitches a little softer with less bounce so I wonder if that is playing on their minds.

That really would be a strange decision. He'll need the time with a duke as well in different conditions.

I'd be going Henry as 12th man anyway. Not sure that he offers something different to the England bats.
Joe Root aside ( and he isn’t as good as KW ) they just scream ordinary test players to me. If Henry plays he could well roll them cheaply.

@nzzp i can't believe they canned the boundary count back clause!!
That was worth a cool 2 million US !!
Any NZer who's at this week's test should march into the Long Room, plonk their arse on Ranjitsinhji's chair, and demand beer paid for from the $2 million "Free Beer for New Zealanders Fund".
Which frankly should happen in every pub in England for the rest of our lives.
Except for me. Because I've never counted that as a loss.

A generation of mummies wanting a wee Oliver to take to prep school followed by those Olivers realising what a crap name it is.

It’s been a long time since we’ve been the Black Craps. I stand by my post.

@dogmeat I just noted those TAB odds - MN5 evidently hasn't yet got around to putting his house on the Black Caps.
England $1.85, NZ $2.80.
Are NZ punters still living in the past, or just anticipating disappointment?
Geez, anyone would think we were opening with our two Blairs ( Hartland and Pocock ) to counter all their ollies.

You clearly aren't as damaged as the rest of us.
So take back, take it back, fucking take it back! Quivering behind one of 3 sofas now.

2004 -"best team to ever leave NZ" Oh how we were going to smack the Poms.
Lost by 9 7 and 4 wickets
To be fair, Shane Bond took the flight didn't he? Just forgot to pack all the pieces he needed in his back!
Message to these English fluffybunnies.
You can actually win these tests. There's just about nine of our players that you may not break fingers or toes on.
